Box Score KEENE, N.H. -- Keene State College used a late 11-2 run in the second half to earn a 75-62 victory over visiting University of Massachusetts Dartmouth this afternoon in the Little East women's basketball regular-season finale at Spaulding Gymnasium.
UMass Dartmouth (15-10) had its four-game conference winning streak snapped to fall into a fourth place tie with Western Connecticut State University. The Colonials earned the fourth seed in the conference tournament by virtue of a 2-0 record against the Corsairs. UMass Dartmouth will travel to Western Connecticut at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25 for the quarterfinals of the 2014 Little East Women's Basketball Championship.
Freshman Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, Mass.) came off the bench to post a double-double with a team-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Erika Bornemann (Canton, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards, while junior Kelsey Garrity (Somerville, Mass.) reached double figures in scoring with 10 points.
Stephanie D'Annolfo paced the hosts with a double-double consisting of 10 points and 16 rebounds. Carly Kiernan scored a team-high 14 points, while Jovan Kingwood registered 12 points and Courtney Roberts added 10.
Bornemann broke a 51-all tie with a 3-pointer, but the Owls responded with a six-point surge, keyed by four points from Kiernan, to give Keene State a 57-52 lead. Ronaghan tried to stem the tide with a jumper, but the Owls scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a decisive advantage (67-56) with two minutes remaining in regulation. The Corsairs were able to cut their deficit to nine points twice down the stretch, but Keene State made 4-of-6 from the charity stripe to seal the conference win.
UMass Dartmouth shot 35.4 percent (23-for-65) from the field, including 30.4 percent (7-for-23) from behind the 3-point arc. Keene State connected on 40.8 percent (29-for-71). The Owls had a decisive 57-42 edge on the glass. The hosts used their 18 offensive rebounds to produce 19 second change points.
Keene State College earned the sixth seed and will travel to third-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
