Box Score 2 DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth volleyball team split the last two matches of the regular season on Saturday afternoon during a tri-match on Senior Night.
The Corsairs suffered a 25-17, 25-13, and 25-22 setback to conference foe Keene State in the opener, but then secured a 29-27, 25-18, 25-23 victory over the Vikings. The win closed the season on a high note for the Corsairs and their six seniors.
Senior Kayla Kirby (Westport, Mass.) led UMD against the Owls with nine kills. Kirby was assisted mostly junior setter Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.), who put in a well-rounded game with a team-high 16 assists while contributing two kills, one ace, and seven digs. Senior classmates Brianna Perry (Acushnet, Mass.) and Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, Mass.) protected the back line for the Corsairs, posting double digit digs, 14 and 12 respectively.
The Owls were led offensively by sophomore Rachel Lamica (Malone, N.Y.), who had a game-high 11 kills. Senior Angela Silveri (Poughquag, N.Y.) slammed nine kills, four aces, and 15 digs. Classmate Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H.) coordinated the Owls attack with a game high 25 assists. Michal also added in three aces and 12 digs on the match.
In the nightcap against the Vikings, junior Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the Corsairs charge with a team high 10 kills and one block. Perry was once again present on the back line, contributing a game- high 13 assists. Spinazola created many opportunities again as she posted a game high 29 assists and eight service aces.
Salem State was paced by senior Emily Peay (Lebanon, Conn.) who knocked down 11 kills, two aces, and five digs. Freshman Mackenize Salls (Turner Fall, Mass.) set up a team-high 21 assists on the four-set match.
The Corsairs wrap up the 2015 season 10-21 overall, with a 1-6 Little East slate. Perry, UMD's libero, closes her career as one of the most decorated players in program history, as she rewrote the record books with nearly 1,600 career digs to become UMD's all-time leader.
