Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team scored three goals in the span of five minutes to break open a close contest en route to a 4-0 victory Monday evening in a NCAA Division III women's soccer contest on Cressy Field.
The Corsairs won for the first time in three matches to improve their overall record to 4-4-1, while the Falcons dropped to 2-9.
Junior Talia D'Ambruoso (Warwick, R.I.) was the offensive catalyst for UMass Dartmouth, registering a goal and two assists for four points. Sophomore Abby Silva (Fall River, Mass.), junior Kayli Berche (Fairhaven, Mass.), and junior Erica Farias (Tiverton, R.I.) also found the back of the net for the hosts.
The Corsairs cracked the scoring column in the ninth minute, when D'Ambruoso generated the opportunity off a free kick. D'Ambruoso fired the restart towards the net, where junior Nicole Starkey-Cox (Warwick, R.I.) was screening the keeper. The attempt deflected off Starkey-Cox's foot to Silva, who deposited her team-leading fourth goal into the open net. Despite holding a 10-1 advantage in shots, the hosts entered the intermission leading 1-0.
UMass Dartmouth took control of the match in the early minutes of the second half, scoring three times within the span of four minutes, 28 seconds. Berche ignited the surge, when she gathered her own rebound and drilled her second marker of the season inside the left post. Less than two minutes later, Farias volleyed a feed from D'Ambruoso for her first goal of the campaign. In the 52nd minute, D'Ambruoso curved in her corner kick attempt from the right flag to cap the three-goal run.
Sophomore Madison Boucher (Southampton, Mass.) made two stops to record her third shutout victory of the season. Her counterpart, junior Morgan Steele (Somerset, Mass.), played all 90 minutes and posted three saves.
UMass Dartmouth held a decisive 20-4 advantage in shots and took all four corner kicks.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Corsairs travel to Southern Maine for a Little East Conference contest.
