Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Roger Williams University produced seven consecutive goals in the first half to power the Hawks past the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's lacrosse team, 12-6, on Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.
UMass Dartmouth dips to .500 on the season with an overall record of 3-3, while the Hawks improve to 4-3 on the year.
Junior Tim Kelly (Ridgefield, Conn.) led Roger Williams on the offensive end with a trio of scores and an assist. Classmate Will Seifert (Duxbury, Mass.) contributed two goals and a helper, while AJ Core (Syosset, N.Y.) and Cameron Signorelli (Albany, N.Y.) each found the back of the cage twice in the win. In net, sophomore Connor Carroll (Madison, Conn.) and senior Luke Aubrey (Norwalk, Conn.) each played a half for the Hawks. Carroll turned away three shot attempts en route to his fourth win of the season and Aubrey registered four stops in the final two quarters.
For the Corsairs, junior Bo Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) tallied a team-best three scores. For the second time this year, the Ashland, Mass. product recorded three goals in a game and through six games he leads the team with 11 markers. Senior Riley Baxter (Groton, Mass.) beat the goalie twice and distributed an assist, while junior Tyler Prentice (Chelmsford, Mass.) cracked the scoring column for the third time this season. Sophomore Matt Lafond (Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded a game-high eight saves in three quarters of work in goal for the home team.
In the opening quarter, Kelly connected with Siefert at the nine minute , 44 second mark for the first score of the contest. Not even a minute later, Baxter tied the game at one apiece with just under nine minutes remaining in the quarter.
With four minutes and 36 seconds left in the first, Jon Gomer (Duxbury, Mass.) sparked the seven goal surge for Roger Williams. The offensive eruption concluded with two minutes and 41 seconds left in the second quarter, when Core ripped his first goal of the game into the back of the net. The Hawks held an 8-1 lead at the break.
In the third, UMass Dartmouth outscored the visitors 3-1 as Prozinski compiled two scores and Prentice with one. Roger Williams put the game out of reach early in the fourth when the Hawks fired off three goals within 17 seconds, giving them a commanding 12-4 advantage with a little over ten minutes remaining in regulation.
During the final minutes of the contest, Prozinski and Baxter cut into the eight goal deficit with their 11th and fourth scores of the season.
Roger Williams held an advantage in shots (31-28), ground balls (39-30) and face off wins (16-6), while the Corsairs forced a game-high 28 turnovers.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action at 7 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 23, when the Corsairs travel to Wentworth for a non-conference matchup. The Hawks next game is at Trinity (Conn.) on Wednesday, Mar. 25 with the start time scheduled for 4 p.m.
