Corsairs Stymied Salem State, 14-3

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Junior Bo Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) produced a season-high eight points to power the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to a 14-3 Little East Conference victory over visiting Salem State University this evening in a NCAA Division III men's lacrosse game on Cressy Field.

The Corsairs won for the fourth time in their past five matches to improve to 7-8 and evened their conference ledger at 3-3. The Vikings moved back to the .500 mark with a 7-7 mark, including a 2-4 record against Little East Conference opponents.

UMass Dartmouth poured on heavy pressure throughout the evening, reaching double digits in shots in each quarter to hold a 46-31 advantage in attempts. Prozinski led the offensive charge with seven goals and an assist, while junior Tyler Prentice (Chelmsford, Mass.) netted a hat trick. Classmate Andrew Johnson (Hopkinton, Mass.) registered a marker and a helper, while scooping up a team-best six ground balls. Junior Dan Brown (Beverly, Mass.) went 6-for-11 at the X.

Sophomore Matt Lafond (Bridgewater, Mass.) made five of his nine stops in the first quarter to thwart Salem State's offensive advances. Freshman Justin McKinney (Pembroke, Mass.) made his first collegiate appearance and posted a save over the final four minutes, 11 seconds.

After both teams alternated early goals just 35 seconds apart, the Corsairs exploded for 13 consecutive markers over the subsequent 43 minutes to take a commanding 14-1 lead. Prozinski rattled off the final four goals of the second quarter to give the hosts a 7-1 advantage entering the locker room. He continued his offensive fireworks with the opening two markers of the third stanza.

Prentice bridged the third and fourth quarters with a pair of goals to complete his second hat trick of the season. Junior Alex Lucas (Brookfield, Mass.) capped the run with his ninth marker of the campaign. The Vikings rounded the scoring with the final two goals of regulation.

Senior Dylan Svenson (Billerica, Mass.) kept the visitors within striking distance in the opening 30 minutes, making nine of his 16 stops. Junior Matt Rodgers (Saugus, Mass.) registered one save while playing the final nine minutes, 38 seconds.

Senior Brian Grant (North Eastham, Mass.) picked up five ground balls to help UMass Dartmouth hold a 31-16 advantage. The Corsairs also featured an effective ride, stopping eight of the Vikings' clearing attempts.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 24, when the Corsairs host intrastate rival UMass Boston in the regular-season finale.
