Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's lacrosse team controlled its Little East Conference contest against intra-state rival University of Massachusetts Boston from the start, overpowering the Beacons 15-2 this evening on Cressy Field.
The Corsairs finished strong down the stretch—winning five of their past six matches—to even their overall record at 8-8. UMass Dartmouth celebrated Senior Day prior to the start of the match, recognizing six members of the Class of 2015.
UMass Dartmouth clinched home field advantage in the first round of the 2015 Little East Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament, earning the fourth seed with a 4-3 record. The final two participants in the tournament field will be decided Saturday. The Beacons completed their 2015 campaign with a 5-10 mark.
The Corsairs raced out to a 5-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes of action, including a pair of goals from junior Bo Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.). Both teams traded goals in the second stanza to give the hosts a 6-1 advantage heading into halftime.
UMass Dartmouth found another gear in the third quarter, netting seven goals to extend its lead to 13-2 after 45 minutes. Junior Tyler Prentice (Chelmsford, Mass.) sandwiched a pair of goals around a visitors' tally, while Prozinski found the back of the net three times in the frame. The Corsairs accounted for both of the two markers in the final quarter to cap the scoring.
Prozinski paced UMass Dartmouth's offensive attack, scoring five goals on six total shots. Prentice netted his second straight hat trick, while freshman DJ Miller (Ashland, Mass.) notched a pair of markers.
Sophomore Matt Lafond (Bridgewater, Mass.) made three saves to raise his individual record to 8-6. Freshman Kyle Taylor (Raynham, Mass.) played the final 7:13, making one stop.
UMass Boston registered both of its goals with an extra attacker. Senior Donny Delpha (Walpole, Mass.) put the Beacons on the board in the second quarter, while junior Joseph Cunningham (Hudson, Mass.) tickled the twine in the third.
Junior Craig Frehill (Norwell, Mass.) came in after the halftime intermission to turn aside eight attempts. Sophomore AJ Collette (West Springfield, Mass.) started between the pipes for the visitors, recording seven saves.
The Corsairs held a 43-15 advantage in shots and a 36-22 lead in groundballs. The hosts converted 23-of-25 clearing attempts, while also turning in a successful ride by denying 11 Beacon opportunities.
