Corsairs Fall to Colonials in Opening Round of LEC Tournament

DANBURY, CT – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's lacrosse team fell to Western Connecticut State University, 24-11 in the opening round of the 2015 Little East Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the Western Athletic Complex.

The Colonials will travel to Keene State College to meet the Owls in the LEC semifinals at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. UMass Dartmouth concludes its season with an overall record of 2-14.

The contest was tight over the first 27 minutes as the Corsairs took an 8-7 advantage following an Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) goal with 3:15 remaining in the first stanza.  The Colonials proceeded to fire off 10 straight goals to build a 17-8 lead with 21:39 left in the contest. Senior Kelsey Heaton, Destinee Carey and freshman Lindsey Eanniello powered the surge, scoring nine of the ten goals. For the game, Heaton and Eanniello led all scorers with seven scores each, while Carey tallied six goals, distributed three assists and scooped up six ground balls. Heaton also added a game-high four helpers for Western Connecticut.   

Junior Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) interrupted the run with her fourth goal of the contest at 21:04, bringing the deficit to eight, 17-9. The Colonials outscored the Corsairs, 7-2, in the remaining minutes to earn the win. Kane and Kish logged the final two scores for the visitors. Kane finished the game with a team-high five scores and Kish added a pair of goals and an assist in the loss.

In net, Nicole Petruzzi made 13 saves to help the Colonials advance. Freshman Erin LaBlanc (Walpole, Mass.) reached double-digit saves for the second consecutive contest, stopping 10 shots in the effort.
