Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Junior Bo Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) and freshman DJ Miller (Ashland, Mass.) each produced four goals and handed out an assist in a 17-5 defeat of Mass. Maritime on Wednesday evening at Cressy Field.
The Corsairs snapped a four game skid and improved to 4-7 on the year, while the Buccaneers dropped to 6-5 on the season.
Prozinski and Miller powered the UMass Dartmouth attack with five points apiece. Junior Alex Lucas (Brookfield, Mass.) tallied three marks in the scoring column to go along with an assist, while senior Riley Baxter (Groton, Mass.) added a pair of goals and assists. Junior Dan Brown (Beverly, Mass.) helped the Corsairs hold a 15-10 advantage at the X and scooped up a game-high seven ground balls. In net, sophomore Matt Lafond (Bridgewater, Mass.) earned his fourth win as he turned away a season-high 11 saves in 48:44 minutes of action.
The Mass. Maritime offense was led by Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.), who found the back of the cage twice. Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.), Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md.) and Joseph Landy (Chatham, N.J.) all cracked the scoring column for the Buccaneers. Under pressure the entire game, James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) recorded dozen saves in 52:31 minutes of play.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first quarter, UMass Dartmouth fired off six consecutive scores to take a 6-1 lead. In the final seconds of the first, Kurylak disrupted the Corsair's charge with his first goal of the contest.
Prozinski and Lucas did all the scoring in the second, as each of them found the back of the cage twice. UMass Dartmouth took a commanding 10-2 advantage into the intermission.
Only 50 seconds into the third quarter, Lucas registered his third score of the contest. A few minutes later, Baxter converted a man-up goal off a setup from Lucas to give the home team a ten goal lead, 12-2. Mass. Maritime added a man-up goal of its own at the 8:37 mark, before the Corsairs tacked on three goals in the ensuing four minutes to push their lead to 15-3. In the final quarter, both teams found the back of the net twice for a 17-5 final.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, when the Corsairs travel to Little East Conference opponent Southern Maine. The Buccaneers are back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday, as they travel to conference foe Babson.
