Box Score FITCHBURG, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth freshman Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) scored her second goal of the match to give the Corsairs a 3-2 advantage, but Fitchburg State University bookended the halftime intermission with 10 consecutive markers to post a 13-7 victory this evening in a NCAA Division III women's lacrosse contest.
Junior Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) powered the UMass Dartmouth attack with her fifth hat trick of the season, while Kish tallied a pair of markers. Sophomore Jess Miles (Lynnfield, Mass.) and freshman Raquel Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) also found the back of the net for the visitors. Sophomore Kathryn Gibb (Georgetown, Mass.) scooped up a season-high seven ground balls.
Freshman Erin LeBlanc (Walpole, Mass.) was under consistent pressure all evening, making a season-high 13 saves. The rookie netminder made seven stops in the opening 30 minutes and six in the second stanza.
In the early going, UMass Dartmouth took a 2-1 edge on consecutive goals by Miles and Kish. After both teams exchanged goals within the span of two minutes, the Falcons proceeded on a 6-0 run, including three goals from Lindsey White, to take an 8-3 lead into halftime.
Going into the second half Fitchburg State continued to pour on the goals, as they started the period on a 4-0 run. The Corsairs would not go down quietly however as they ended the closing stanza with four goals, including three from Kane in the final 20 minutes, while holding the Green & Gold to just one tally in the final 25 minutes of the contest.
Fitchburg State was led by White with four goals and one assist, while Ali Laferriere contributed with three goals and one assist with four draw-controls.
The Falcons held a 31-16 advantage in shots and 17-5 edge in draw-controls, while both teams picked up 24 groundballs on the evening.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 12, when the Corsairs travel to Saint Joseph's (Maine) for a non-conference tilt.
