Plymouth State Swims Past Corsair Women, 130-119

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's swimming and diving squad took home five event wins on Friday afternoon, as the host Corsairs fell in a dual meet with Plymouth State, 130-119.

The Panthers earn their third-straight dual meet win, as both teams competed for the last time prior to next weekend's Little East Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.

Junior Kaya Flanagan (Fairhaven, Mass.) led the Corsairs on the day, earning wins in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:06.93 and the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:25.10, topping the field of five swimmers. Flanagan also took second place in the 50-yard butterfly, turning in a time of 29.05.

Classmate Yulyssa Diaz (Dorchester, Mass.) also bested a field of five, taking first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle, stopping the timer at 11:53.53 for her fastest time in the event this season. She also picked up two second-place finishes, swimming the 50-yard freestyle in 27.71 and the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.43.

Wrapping up the individual UMass Dartmouth victories was sophomore Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.), topping the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:18.90. She also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 2:09.02, and the 50-yard breaststroke, finishing in 35.40.

The trio teamed with junior Jillian Boyle (Westport, Mass.) to close the event on a high note, winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:52.05, ten seconds faster than their Plymouth State counterparts.

The Panthers were led on the meet by freshman Deanne DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.), who secured two of PSU's seven event wins. DeGrazia placed first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:08.89 and also took the 5000-yard variety with a time of 5:58.65.

Sophomore Addie Schumaker (Haymarket, Va.) also was victorious in two events, taking the 50-yard breaststroke in 35.20 as well as the 100-yard breast in 1:09.04.

The squads will meet yet again next Saturday at the Tripp Center Natatorium, as UMass Dartmouth hosts the 2016 LEC Championships for the 12-straight year, starting at 11 a.m.
