Women's Swimming & Diving Posts 32-Point Win over Westfield State

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Seniors Kaya Flanagan (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Kendra Hebert (Lowell, Mass.) along with junior Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.) combined to secure eight of UMass Dartmouth women's swimming & diving's event wins on Saturday, as the Corsairs prevailed 152-120 over Westfield State in the Little East Conference Meet of the Season.

How it Happened

Deveaux claimed her first of three wins on the afternoon in the 1,000-yard mixed freestyle, collecting a time of 11:43.85. Westfield State prevailed in the next three events before Flanagan swam a season-best 2:29.16 to prevail in the 200-yard fly. 

Hebert secured her first of the two diving event wins in the 1-meter, winning by more than 30 with a score of 234.10. She returned later in the meet to wrap up a winning total of 223.90 in the 3-meter competition. 

Flanagan took the 200-yard backstroke in 2:19.04, and turned in a season-best time in the 100-yard fly at 1:04.25 to bookend Deveaux's winning 5:47.39 performance in the 500-yard free. The duo then combined with senior Yulyssa Diaz (Dorchester, Mass.) and freshman Abigail Wilson (Newburyport, Mass.) to cap the day with a 4:03.95 performance in the 400-yard free relay. 

UMass Dartmouth's ninth event win of the day came at the hands of freshman Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.), who continued her solid season in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:22.82. She additionally claimed two second-place finishes on the day in the 100-yard and 200-yard breast events, while Diaz swam to a second-place time in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best 2:12.91.

UMass Dartmouth breaks next for the remainder of December and returns to the pool next on Jan. 18, traveling to WPI for a tri-meet with the Engineers and Wheaton (Mass.).
