Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Twelve goals in the second half propelled Bridgewater State to a 19-10 victory over visiting UMass Dartmouth Tuesday afternoon at Swenson Field in non-conference women's lacrosse action.
UMass Dartmouth falls to 1-1 on the year, while the Bears improve to 2-0.
Senior Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) bookended the first half of the game, with three of her four goals on the afternoon in the first 30 minutes. To end the first half, she capitalized on a free position shot with 16 seconds remaining, and then off the draw control seven seconds later. Kane tacked on an assist on the day to make her point total to five.
Junior Catrina Longo (Billerica, Mass.) was the only other Corsair to notch more than one goal. Besides her two goals on the afternoon, Longo added a game-high three assists. Four additional UMass Dartmouth players netted one score apiece.
For Bridgewater State, junior Alex King (North Weymouth, Mass.) tallied seven points, which included six goals and one assist on the afternoon. Senior Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) added five goals and one assist to the Bear attack.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair as neither team could take control early. UMass Dartmouth got the first two goals from Kane and sophomore Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.), respectively, in the early minutes of the game.
Both teams traded goals until half way through the second half, when Bridgewater State went on a stretch to score nine out of the next 10 to put the game away. The nine goals were contributed by five different Bears.
The only Corsair to break the hosts' run came from the stick of sophomore Leah Douty (Framingham, Mass.), who tallied her first collegiate goal with 8:33 remaining in the second half.
UMass Dartmouth freshman Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) made 10 saves on 29 shots in the loss. Her counterpart, junior Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.), collected eight saves on 18 shots to pick up her second victory on the year.
The Corsairs return to action when they travel to Saint Joseph's in Maine on March 12 for a 4:00 p.m. start time.
