Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Babson Beavers rebounded in a big way following a hot first quarter for Corsairs on Wednesday evening, outscoring UMass Dartmouth men's lacrosse by a 19-2 margin over the final three quarters to take a 21-6 win home from Cressy Field.
In addition, the Beavers scored the final 13 goals of the contest, with three separate players including Taylor Segreti (North Potomac, Md.), Spencer Low (Natick, Mass.) and Brendan Coan (Towson, Md.) recording hat tricks to outmatch UMass Dartmouth across the stat sheet.
Both teams are now 2-7 on the season, as the Beavers snap a five-game skid. UMass Dartmouth has now dropped six in a row.
Corsair senior Bo Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) registered half of UMass Dartmouth's scores while tacking on an assist. Junior goalkeeper Matt LaFond (Bridgewater, Mass.) put in 45 minutes between the pipes, turning aside six shots.
The Corsairs began the contest running on all cylinders, potting four of the first quarter's six goals to take an early lead. Senior Joey Bouthillette (Northbridge, Mass.) registered the first score of the game a minute in on the assist from classmate Andrew Johnson (Hopkinton, Mass.). Babson's Scott Doten (Western Springs, Ill.) evened the margin seconds later, but Prozinski bookended a goal from Tyler Prentice (Chelmsford, Mass.) with tallies of his own to put the hosts up 4-1 through eight minutes. Segreti buried his first goal of the night to close the opening stanza.
Prozinski put in his third goal in a little over 18 minutes of play to open the second quarter. The Beavers then reversed the tides completely, scoring six-straight to close the first half. Coan got on the board at 6:55 to even the score at five, before Segreti clinched a lead his team wouldn't relinquish at 10:49. Babson entered the break with a 8-5 lead.
A minute into the second half, senior Alex Lucas (Brookfield, Mass.) posted a goal on a Prozinski helper, cutting the Corsair deficit to two and continued what seemed to be an evenly-matched affair. However, the goal would be the last score for UMass Dartmouth on the evening, as Babson responded with six more straight goals to close the third quarter.
The game was all Beavers in the fourth as well, as the Babson offense tacked on seven more scores on 12 shots over the final 15 minutes, while holding UMass Dartmouth to just two shots and forcing eight turnovers. The Beavers were backstopped by sophomore Jordan Shapiro (Pleasantville, N.Y.), who turned aside eight shots over 45 minutes.
The Corsairs will look to get back on track on Saturday, traveling to LEC foe Southern Maine for a 1 p.m. start. Babson returns to NEWMAC competition the same day, hosting MIT at 11 a.m.
