Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth kicked off both halves of play with dominating spurts and held Southern Maine without a field goal in the third quarter, registering its highest field goal percentage of the season at 54 percent (26-of-48) to secure a 74-50 Little East Conference victory over the Huskies on Saturday.

How it Happened
Out of the gate, UMass Dartmouth connected on 8-of-12 (66 percent) from the field in the opening quarter to step on the gas early. A 6-0 lead from the tip quickly extended to a 21-4 advantage after the first 10 minutes as the Huskies generated just two field goals on the quarter.
The Corsairs then opened the door for the Huskies with eight turnovers in the second quarter, and the visitors took full advantage. Southern Maine's Hannah Clement (Orono, Maine) notched a pair of foul shots to cap a 9-2 Husky run, cutting UMass Dartmouth's advantage to just eight with a minute and a half before break.
After carrying the 37-29 lead at half, the Corsairs squashed the comeback effort for good with another strong quarter in the third. UMass Dartmouth did not allow a field goal by Southern Maine in the full 10 minutes, and embarked on an 11-2 run including four points from senior Rachel McCarron (Groton, Mass.). The Corsairs then wrapped the afternoon in the fourth, shooting 62 percent (5-of-8) from the field to push the lead to as much as 27.
Inside the Numbers
- McCarron led all scorers with 16 points, rounding out her line with four rebounds, four assists and a block.
- Forwards Nakira Examond (New Bedford, Mass.) and Alicia Kutil (Franklin, Mass.) both registered double-doubles on the afternoon; Examond generated her fourth double-double in six games with 13 points and 14 boards while Kutil tallied 14 points with 10 rebounds.
- Southern Maine's Miranda Nicely (Farmington, Maine) led her team with seven points while five others turned out six points apiece.
- UMass Dartmouth freshman Soraya Leon (Taunton, Mass.) registered her first career points with a pair of free throws in the fourth quarter.
- For the ninth time this season, the Corsairs out-rebounded their opponent by more than 10, this time outdoing the Huskies 55-28 on the boards including 44 defensive rebounds.
- Though the Corsairs are just 6-66 all-time against Southern Maine, five of the six wins have come within the past three seasons.
