How it Happened

Using 8-of-16 shooting in the opening quarter, the Pride opened up a lead that it would hold for the entirety of the first half. Less than two minutes in, a 3-pointer by Sam D'Angleo (Woburn, Mass.) extended the hosts' lead to 7-0. UMass Dartmouth pulled within a point three separate times in the first, but Regis held one step ahead.

Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) gave the hosts a 27-18 advantage in the second quarter with a 3-pointer before the visitors clawed back. Beginning at 3:31, UMass Dartmouth kicked off a 12-0 stretch with an Alicia Kutil (Franklin, Mass.) lay-up, and junior Leah Douty (Framingham, Mass.) evened the score at 34. In the final seconds of the half, Regis' Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) converted a traditional three-point play to bump the Pride in front 37-34 at half.

UMass Dartmouth overtook the Pride for the first time midway through the third quarter when Douty notched a long-range basket, and the Corsairs eventually pounded out an 11-point lead at 6:17 in the fourth quarter. Moments later, Regis regained momentum with an 8-0 run with Hawkeworth pulling her team even at 65 at 2:51. Down three with a minute remaining, Douty buried a pair of free throws, and after D'Angelo responded with a set of her own, McCarron would net the hoop on the trip back down. As time expired, Kutil denied a Stone lay-up to force overtime.

Kutil secured the first five points of the overtime period, and the Corsairs used free-throws to undo Regis in the extra period. In the final minute and a half, senior Adi Alicea-Cordero (Dorchester, Mass.) registered all six of her points including four foul shots to stretch UMass Dartmouth's final lead to nine.
