Box Score

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Senior Lauren Bradshaw (Bethel, Conn.) scored four goals and added six assists for 10 points to lead Western Connecticut to a 17-9 Little East Conference women's lacrosse victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.

The visiting Colonials (13-4, 5-2 LEC) overcame an early 1-0 deficit by scoring five unanswered goals in a three-minute stretch, and after junior Sam Muir's (Sturbridge, Mass.) man-up marker sliced the host Corsairs' (4-12, 0-7 LEC) deficit to three, Western Connecticut took control of the contest with four straight scores that included man-down goals from junior Brooke Baldelli (New Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Mia Schumey (West Hartford, Conn.) for a 9-2 lead with 5:51 to play in the half.  UMass Dartmouth scored twice in the final 4:09 of the half to trial 9-4 at the break, and after the teams traded a pair of tallies each in the opening 11-plus minutes after intermission, the visitors iced their triumph with a five goal run highlighted by sophomore Caroline Galligan's (Marshfield, Mass.) hat trick.

Galligan finished with four goals and a pair of assists in the triumph for the Colonials, who received four scores and a helper from Baldelli along with a marker and assist each from sophomore Alyssa Carpentieri (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and freshman Brianna Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.).  Senior Samantha Lawlor (Brookfield, Conn.) and junior Morgan Moore (Meriden, Conn.) each added goals for Western Connecticut, which held a 36-21 edge in total shots (30-15 on goal) and a 21-7 advantage in draw controls on the afternoon.

Muir netted a game-high six goals in the setback for the Corsairs, as her final tally of the day with 2:12 remaining was the 100th point of her career.  Senior Brooke Martel (Haverhill, Mass.) added two markers for UMass Dartmouth, which received a goal from freshman Isabella Mancini (Bellingham, Mass.) along with two assists off the stick of sophomore Emma Delacy (New Bedford, Mass.).  Sophomore Jennifer Sawicki (Westbury, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal with a six-save effort for Western Connecticut, while senior Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) made 13 stops in her final collegiate match in net for the Corsairs, who held a 32-31 edge in ground balls on the day.

Western Connecticut has clinched a spot in the upcoming Little East Conference Championships, which begin with quarterfinal round action on Tuesday.  Today's contest marked the season finale for UMass Dartmouth.
