CLASH WITH THE COLONIALS
Coming off a blowout victory over Worcester State last week, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth football team hits the road for a big week five matchup against Western Connecticut State. The Corsairs are 3-1 on the year and 1-1 in the MASCAC, while the Colonials are 2-2 and 1-1 in conference play.
LAST TIME OUT
- UMass Dartmouth's rushing attack was the star of the show, racking up 381 yards on the ground with five touchdowns in the Corsairs' 52-7 win over Worcester State.
- Freshman Marvens Jean led the way with 137 rushing yards and a 62-yard touchdown run.
- Junior Luis Gonzalez picked up 89 yards with two touchdowns, while sophomore Richarno Hylton and freshman Jalyn Aponte each took one to the house as well.
- Sophomore quarterback Dante Aviles-Santos threw for 161 yards and three touchdowns.
- Coming down with two touchdown grabs was 5th-year senior Douglas Machado, while freshman Easten Coleman grabbed one as well. Machado finished with 87 receiving yards in the game.
- On defense, seniors Javien Delgado and Mekhi Geter, and junior Josh Lacerte all sacked the quarterback, while sophomore Trell Best came down with his second interception of the year.
- UMass Dartmouth scored 12 points in the first, 13 in the second, 13 in the third and 14 in the fourth.
BEST OFFENSE IN THE MASCAC
- After last week, the offensive numbers got even better for the top offense in the MASCAC.
- The Corsairs are averaging 35.5 points per game, have scored 142 total points and have scored 22 touchdowns. All of those numbers lead the conference by a wide margin.
- They also lead the MASCACÂ with 443.3 yards per game and 1,773 yards of total offense.
- The Corsairs lead the league in passing touchdowns (13) and are tied for top spot in rushing touchdowns (9).
- Machado leads the conference with 104.8 receiving yards per game and is first with five touchdown catches this season.
- Gonzalez is tied for second in rushing yards per game (79.3), while Jean is fourth (74.8). Both Gonzalez and jean are tied for fourth with three rushing TD's each.
- Aviles-Santos is the league leader with 11 passing touchdowns and is third in the MASCAC with 198.5 passing yards per game.
D-FENSE
- UMass Dartmouth ranks fourth in the MASCAC, allowing 23.8 points per game.
- UMassD is tied for the league lead in interceptions (4) and is fourth in the league in rushing defense (138.5) and tackles per game (66.3).
- The Corsairs are third in the conference with seven sacks. Freshman linebacker Sam Alicea is tied for second with three sacks.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
- After his performance against Worcester State, Marvens Jean was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week.
- Jean rushed for 137 yards on 10 carries for an average of 13.7 yards per carry and broke off a 62-yard touchdown where he broke five tackles on his way to six.
- Senior linebacker Javien Delgado was named to the Defensive Honor Roll after leading the team with six tackles, 1.5 sacks and a pass breakup.
SCOUTING WEST CONN
- Western Connecticut is 2-2 on the year and 1-1 in the MASCAC with a win over Westfield State (42-6) and loss at Bridgewater State (21-17).
- The Colonials are second in the conference with 27.8 points per game and 15 touchdowns. West Conn is third in the league with 369.0 total yards per game.
- Running back Roy Penn-Consentino is fourth in the MASCAC with 79.3 rushing yards per game, while sophomore quarterback Mack Driver is tied for the conference lead with five rushing touchdowns.
- Freshman quarterback John Giller ranks fourth in the conference in passing yards (181.3) and third in passing touchdowns (6).
- On defense, West Conn ranks third in fewest points allowed (20.3) and Jameson Charlestin is tied for second in the conference with three sacks.Â
COLONIALS' LAST TIME OUT
- Mack Driver scored a 48-yard touchdown to put the West Conn ahead early in the fourth quarter, 17-14, but Bridgewater connected on a late touchdown pass to defeat the Colonials, 21-17.
- Driver rushed eight times for a total of 78 yards to lead West Conn's 212-yard ground attack.
- Freshman quarterback John Giller (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) was held a bay on Friday, as he completed just 10-of-25 passes for 98 yards and was intercepted twice.
