DARTMOUTH, Mass.- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth freshman Amanda Little (Pembroke, Mass.) had an impressive afternoon for the Corsairs, placing first in both the shot put and discus throws in today's loss to Babson College. Junior Kaitlyn Bernier (Dartmouth, Mass.) matched Little's performance, placing first in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash.
Little, who is fresh off earning Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the Week, made a case for repeating the honor. The freshman earned the top spot in the shot put throw with a toss of 10.57 meters and a throw of 33.42 meters in the discus. She also placed second in the hammer throw with a distance of 25.55 meters.
Senior Kristin Slowinski (Colrain, Mass.) earned the top spot in the hammer (31.39m) and picked up a pair of second place finishes in the shot put (10.42m) and discus throws (25.78m). Freshman Kate Hockenbury (Hopedale, Mass.) rounded out the Corsairs dominance in the throwing events, grabbing third place in shot put (9,95m), discus (24.4m), and hammer (21.36m). Fellow classmate Alexa Lemiuex (Blackstone, Mass.) grabbed the top spot in the javelin with a toss of 27 meters.
Bernier, who joined Little with two LEC honors this week, led the way on the track, winning the 400-meter dash in an impressive 59.51 seconds. She also finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.42 second. Senior Taylor Walsh (Groveland, Mass.) grabbed a win for the Corsairs, finishing first in the 800-meter and clocking in at 2:30.41. Freshman Lexy Lynch (Wareham, Mass.) earned three points for the team, finishing the 100-meter dash in 13.97 seconds.
The Corsairs return to action Saturday, April 17th when they host Wheaton College.
