Philbrook Wins 10k on Day 1 at New England DIII Championships

Grad student helps Corsairs to fourth overall of 23 Teams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – It was a historic day for the UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team as Emily Philbrook won the 10,000-meter event at the 2026 New England Division III Championships, hosted by Springfield College at Blake Track.
 
Philbrook made history in the 10,000-meters, claiming victory in a time of 39:18.11 – which was a personal-best mark. In addition, Philbrook became the first Corsair to ever win the 10k at the New England Division III Championships (event was first contested in 1990 at the meet).
 
Junior Sarah Lynch also finished strong in the race, placing eighth overall with a personal-record time of 40:18.59. Classmate Sophie Owen was 15th overall with a time of 41:23.98 to round out the day's action.
 
In the hammer throw, junior captain Emily Hesketh placed 12th overall with a throw of 45.62 meters (149' 8"), while in the long jump, rookie Eshaya Lauder was 12th overall with a distance of 5.39 meters (17' 8.25").
 
The Corsairs will see two individuals and two relay teams back in action on Saturday for day two of the New England DIII Championships. Action begins with the shot put at 2pm.
