DARTMOUTH, Mass.- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth junior Kaitlyn Bernier (Dartmouth, Mass.) took home the gold in the 400-meter dash and the 200-meter dash while senior Taylor Walsh (Groveland, Mass.) took home the gold in the 800-meter run in today's Little East Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Bernier posted a season-best time of 59.26 seconds to secure the title. The Dartmouth native ran another personal best in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 26.53 seconds to earn the top spot. Walsh also posted her season-best time, finishing her championship run in 2:22.58.
Three other Corsairs grabbed points for the team, sophomore McKenzie Canuel (Dartmouth, Mass.) grabbed six points in the 400-meter dash with her third-place finish of 1:04.37. Freshman Juleen Guirand capped the Corsairs performance in the event, taking home a point from her sixth-place finish at 1:10.51. Senior Emilea Lauzon (Lakeville, Mass) earned four points for the UMassD, finishing in fourth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.28 seconds, her top time of the season.
Senior Kristin Slowinksi (Colrain, Mass.) posted a personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 114' 10" (35m). With this throw, Slowinski improves on her previous mark that placed her at #10 on the Corsairs All-Time list in the hammer.
UMassD capped off the afternoon with a win in the final event of the day, taking home first place in the 4x400M Relay. Lauzon, Canuel, Walsh, and Bernier combined to claim the top spot with a time of 4:07.94. The Corsairs finished with 52 points, earning 5th place in the conference.
The Corsairs await seeding for the upcoming NEICAAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place Saturday, May 15th in New Britain, CT.
