Walsh Paces Corsairs at NEICAAA's

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Taylor Walsh (Groveland, Mass.) set a personal-record in the 800-meter run this afternoon as the Corsairs competed at New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships in Veterans Stadium.

Walsh recorded the second fasted time in UMass Dartmouth program history in the second section of the race, covering the 800-meter distance in a time of 2:19.04. The senior from Groveland, Mass. improved five spots on her seed to place 10th overall and passed Jan McGaffigan (2:21.04, 1977) on the all-time performance list.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Bernier (Dartmouth, Mass.) nearly advanced to the finals in the 400-meter dash, when she crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 58.53 seconds to finish ninth in 20-person race.  Bernier was a tenth of a second behind American International senior Wahjerjay Blango from qualifying for the finals.   

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 11am on Thursday, May 20, when the Corsairs travel to Tufts University for a Last Chance Meet.
