MEDFORD, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior
Taylor Walsh (Groveland, Mass.) shattered the 800-meter run program record this afternoon to pace the Corsairs at the Tufts National Qualifier in the final competition of the campaign.
Walsh became the first women's runner in program history to complete the 800-meter distance in under 18 seconds, when she crossed the finish line at 2:17.38. The Groveland, Mass. native shaved over a second off the previous mark that was set by Meaghan Bohigian (2:18.67) in 2011. In a highly competitive heat that featured two runners in the top-five and a third in the top-15 on the latest Division III performance list, Walsh posted a personal record to place sixth.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Bernier (Dartmouth, Mass.) also hit the track for the final time this season, competing in the 400-meter run. Bernier was second in the seven-person field with a time of 59.48 seconds.
First-year
Amanda Little (Pembroke, Mass.) posted a mark of 31.08 meters (102-00) on her fourth attempt to finish fourth in the discus.
