MASCAC OPENER
The first big test is here for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth football team. The Corsairs face the Framingham State Rams in their Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener. UMassD has had a successful first two weeks, while the Rams have faced tough competition and are 0-2 to start the season.

LAST TIME OUT
  • UMass Dartmouth's offense put up monster numbers with 594 yards of total offense in a 48-29 victory over Dean College last weekend.
  • Sophomore quarterback Dante Aviles-Santos threw for 325 yards and five touchdowns, adding one more on the ground, to bring his total to six scores for the day.
  • 5th-year senior Douglas Machado came away with 196 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including one for 78 yards, on seven catches.
  • Also hauling in TD receptions were freshmen Mike Vincent (41 yards), Antonio Brown (55 yards) and Thomas Zednik (14 yards).
  • On the ground, junior Luis Gonzalez rushed for 152 yards and a 40-yard score, while freshman Marvens Jean picked up 72 yards and a TD.
  • On defense, sophomore Jackson Wellman led the way with 11 tackles and an interception, while sophomore Shane Meerbott had nine solo tackles, freshman Logan Chappell finished with eight tackles and an INT, and freshman Sam Alicea added a sack.
  • The Corsairs connected on three long touchdown passes in the first quarter.
  • Aviles-Santos took a 1-yard run across the plane and added another through the air to Zednik in the third.
  • Machado caught one more in the end zone, while Gonzalez and Jean ran in a pair in for six in the fourth.
OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
  • UMass Dartmouth's offense is far and away the best in the MASCAC through the first two weeks.
  • The Corsairs are averaging 464 yards per game, which is 106.5 more than West Conn, who is second in that category.
  • They also lead the MASCAC with 11 touchdowns and 34.5 points per game.
  • Machado leads the conference with 140 receiving yards per game and is tied for first with teammates Vincent and Brown with two touchdown receptions.
  • Gonzalez is first in rushing yards per game (99.5), while Jean is third (57).
  • Aviles-Santos is the league leader with seven passing touchdowns and is second in the MASCAC with 226.5 passing yards per game.
BALL HAWKS
  • The Corsairs have the third-best scoring defense in the MASCAC, allowing 21.5 points per game.
  • UMassD is tied for the league lead in interceptions (3), is fourth in the league in rushing defense (120.5) and tackles per game (68.5).
  • Alicea is tied for second in the MASCAC with two sacks this season.
  • Wellman ranks sixth in tackles per game (9), senior JP Mason, Chappell and Meerbott are tied for 12th (7.5).
  • Wellman, Chappell and sophomore Trell Best each have one interception this season.
STARTING A STREAK?
  • UMass Dartmouth has swept the first two weeks of the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week Award.
  • Mason took it home after week one, while Wellman won last week after his 11 tackle, one interception performance.
  • Aviles-Santos also won both the Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week awards after his performance against Dean College.
PLAY OF THE WEEK
  • The MASCAC Fan Vote Play of the Week is back and UMass Dartmouth won the first edition of 2021.
  • Aviles-Santos' 55-yard touchdown pass to Brown secured 62-percent of the votes in a Twitter poll to secure the win.

SCOUTING FRAMINGHAM
  • The reigning MASCAC champions, Framingham State is the perennial power of the conference and was selected to finish first in the preseason poll with 59 points and six of the nine first-place votes.
  • Returning from that championship team is MASCAC Offensive Rookie of the Year Devaun Ford, who led the league in total yards (1,003), yards per game (100.3), yards per rush (5.8) and was second in rushing touchdowns (9).
  • On the other side of the ball, MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year Joshua Onujiogu is back. He closed out the 2019 regular season with 44 tackles, including 24 solo along with eight sacks for a total loss of 47 yards. 
  • The rams have played two strong opponents to prepare for conference play, falling to No. 22 Brockport (31-0) and No. 6 St. John Fisher (38-7).
RAMS' LAST TIME OUT
  • Framingham fell to No. 6 St. John Fisher, 38-7.
  • After a scoreless first quarter, St. John Fisher got on the board in the second quarter with a pair of touchdowns.
  • St. John Fisher extended the lead to 38-0 with two TD's and a field goal in the third quarter and one touchdown in the fourth.
  • Framingham's score came when Donovan Carr and Isaiah Hanks connected for a 9-yard touchdown with just under six minutes remaining in the game.
ALL-TIME AGAINST FRAMINGHAM
  • It has been an evenly matched series dating back to 1990.
  • Framingham has won ten games, while the Corsairs have been victorious in eight.
  • UMass Dartmouth won five in a row from 1993-1997.
  • It has been more one-sided in recent years. Framingham has won seven of the last eight contests and three straight.
  • The last UMass Dartmouth win came in 2016 (35-34 OT).
