UMass Dartmouth has nine returners on the roster

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The 50th version of University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball begins on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Regis College. The Corsairs return nine players from the 2021-22 roster that advanced to the Little East Conference (LEC) Championship. Among the players back are four graduate students, four juniors and one sophomore, while a grad transfer, a sophomore and two freshmen fill out the roster. Head Coach Matt Ducharme enters his ninth season needing just two wins for 150 in his career.

Last season, UMass Dartmouth finished the regular season with a 20-8 record, including 12-4 in the LEC to earn the third seed in the tournament. The team defeated UMass Boston in the first round, then upset second-seeded Eastern Connecticut in the semifinals before coming up short in the championship at Rhode Island College.

Grad student Jordan Moretti is back for her fifth year with the Corsairs. The LEC First Team and Defensive Team performer averaged 14.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg and 7.4 apg, while adding 2.0 spg last season and is seven points away from reaching the 1,000-point milestone. Classmates Shaelyn Carreiro (9.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg), Caroline Wilson (6.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg) and Jessica Carroll (5.2 ppg, 1.2 rpg) add experience as well.

The junior class of Teja Andrews (8.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg), Kaylin Zalewski (6.4 ppg, 2.6 rpg), forward Jemima Joseph and guard Jaelyn Lavigne will see playing time along with sophomore Nicolette D'Itria.

Newcomers are grad transfer Julia Quinn from Western New England. The guard averaged 9.7 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 2.1 apg during her senior season with the Golden Bears. Sophomore forward Jordyn Hunter-Coleman and freshmen guards Melanie DeMeo and Kiara Cerruti will add depth.

After Regis, the Corsairs host the LaFrance Hospitality Tournament on Saturday against Husson and will play either Bowdoin or St. Lawrence on Sunday. UMass Dartmouth is then home against Salve Regina (Nov. 16) before three road games. LEC play opens at the Tripp Athletic Center against Eastern Connecticut (Dec. 7) at 5:30 p.m.
