PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After going into the half trailing 1-0, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team battled back in the second half, drawing Plymouth State 2-2 on Friday. The Corsairs' 2023 regular season concludes with a final record of 3-7-7 and an LEC record of 0-3-5. Meanwhile, the Panthers move to 5-8-4 and boast a 1-5-3 record against conference opponents. Both programs will miss out on the final LEC Tournament Spot with the draw.

Plymouth State's first score of the game came in the 39th minute of the first half. PSU freshman Nevaeh Petruzzi found the top-right portion of the net to give the Panthers the game's first goal. Both defenses showed their strength in the first half, not allowing another score, and going into the break with Plymouth State leading 1-0.

With UMass Dartmouth fighting to keep their LEC Tournament hopes alive, they upped the aggression in the second half. It paid off when senior captain Bella Medeiros found 5th year Mya Parker on a breakaway. Parker rocketed one past the left side of the keeper, and evened up the contest at 1-1 with 30 minutes remaining in regulation.

With the match tied at 1-1, it was the Panthers who responded this time, putting themselves back on top just two minutes after the Corsairs' goal. During the 67th minute, PSU sophomore Molly Bellmore found her classmate Emily Wilson, who found the back of the net to go up 2-1.

The Corsairs stayed relentless with their pursuit, not ready for their season to end. In the 83rd minute, Plymouth State fouled a Corsair outside of the box, setting up freshman Adrianna Adames for the free kick. Adames played a perfect ball on the free kick, and connected with fellow freshman Madison Depina who scored her first career goal to even it up at 2-2.

As the clock ticked down in the 2-2 contest, the Corsairs had a few more opportunities to put themselves over the top. Adames attempted a shot on a free kick that coasted above the net in the 85th minute. Shortly afterwards, Depina had another chance on the receiving end of a UMD corner kick that was turned away by PSU goalkeeper. The final five minutes ran off the clock with neither team able to break the tie, and the contest concluded at a 2-2 draw.

UMass Dartmouth was out-shot 16-5 by the Panthers, but the Corsairs were efficient with their attempts, with 66% of their shots on-target to Plymouth State's 50%.  UMD's freshman Grace Conti minded the net for the full 90 minutes and made six saves. The Panthers' freshman Drea Oswell kept the net for the full 90 minutes and made one save.

Despite their best efforts to fight their way into the LEC Tournament, the UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team's 2023 season comes to a close with the 2-2 draw.
