DARTMOUTH, Mass. – D3Hoops.com has announced its All-Region honors in women's basketball and UMass Dartmouth graduate student
Jordan Moretti has been recognized and is now eligible for D3Hoops.com All-America honors. It marks the second career All-Region honor for Moretti, who was also named to the Little East All-Conference First Team and All-Defensive Team a few weeks ago.
A guard who hails from Johnston, R.I., Moretti started all 27 games this season for the Corsairs and led the team with 15.1 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per contest. In addition to a team-leading 117 assists, she also paced UMD with a team-high 67 steals to go along with eight blocks. Moretti shot 144-of-315 (45.7%) from the floor and was 78-of-100 (78.0%) from the free throw line, while averaging a team-best 32.0 minutes per contest.
Moretti opened the 2022-23 season by becoming the 14th member of the 1,000-point club at UMass Dartmouth, scoring on a fast break layup with 53 seconds left in the opening quarter of a 72-42 win over Regis at home. Moretti, who currently owns a 4.00 GPA in grad school, went on to score 21 points with four rebounds, four assists and four steals in that game.
Other highlights from her graduate student season came in narrow 95-91 loss at Bridgewater State on November 29 as she scored 30 points with 13 rebounds and 12 assists to record her first collegiate triple-double.
Amongst the LEC leaders, Moretti ranks fourth in scoring, 12th in rebounding, fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.331), sixth in free throw percentage, while ranking seventh in three-point field goals per game (1.6) and eighth in field goal percentage. She also ranks second in the LEC in assists (4.3 average), third in steals (2.5) and is fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.2).
A three-time All-Little East selection, Moretti has led the Corsairs in scoring since her sophomore season in 2019-20. Last season, she started all 28 games, averaging 14.3 points, 5.4 boards and 4.7 assists per game. During her junior season in 2020-21 during a shortened COVID year, she averaged 16.3 points, 7.4 caroms and 5.2 assists per contest over nine games.
Her sophomore season – in which she garnered Second Team All-LEC honors, saw her play in 23 games, averaging 13.3 points, 6.0 boards and 3.3 assists per game. During her freshman campaign, Moretti played in 27 games, averaging 5.2 points and 2.2 boards per game. A multiple Dean's List honoree throughout her career, Moretti is also a multiple Little East All-Academic Team selection.
UMass Dartmouth finished the season with a 17-10 overall record, going 12-4 in Little East play. The squad earned the third-seed in the LEC Tournament, defeating Keene State, 59-37 in the Quarterfinals. The Corsairs advanced to the LEC Semifinals, falling by a 66-60 margin to second-seeded – and eventual champion and current Final Four participant – Rhode Island College.
