Men's Cross Country Posts Strong Finish at Home Meet

Corsairs take 14th overall in both men's races at multi-divisional event

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Despite overcast skies and rain throughout, the UMass Dartmouth men's cross country team had a solid outing, hosting the multi-divisional 51st Annual UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational at the Robert Dowd Course on campus. The Corsairs saw a number of competitors compete in both the varsity and sub-varsity 8k events on Saturday.
 
The men's varsity race, which featured 342 runners, saw fifth year Jake Paris lead the way, posting a time of 26:29.14 for 82nd overall. Senior Benjamin Davignon was next across, taking 88th with a time of 26:36.39.
 
Sophomore Cameron Thompson came across the finish with a time of 26:37.94, which was 91st overall as classmate Joseph Stanton placed 109th with a time of 26:54.03. Graduate student Frank Wenner powered to a time of 26:58.03 to earn 112th on the day.
 
Rookie Jackson Caron went on to finish with a time of 27:35.83, which was 163rd overall, while graduate student Davis Preston ran a time of 27:36.89 for 170th. Rounding out the varsity scores was junior Ethan Sylvia, who finished 187th with a mark of 27:52.88.
 
The day got underway with the men's sub-varsity race, which featured 230 runners. Rookie Connor Bruni paced the way for 41st overall with a time of 27:12.63. Next to cross was senior Isaac Steele, who was 71st with a time of 28:02.36.
 
Finishing in 109th with a time of 29:14.28 was rookie, while sophomore Zack Shute posted a time of 30:07.69 for 150th overall. Sophomore Ronan Maloney placed 155th in a time of 30:18.81, while junior Cooper Blatz was close behind in 158th with a mark of 30:30.92. Next to finish was rookie Michael Gemelli, who had a time of 30:37.05 for 162nd, as junior James Christie was 167th in 30:57.14.
 
Sophomore Ben Bairos placed 174th with a time of 31:26.13, while classmate Tyler Scanlon was 178th with a time of 31:49.92. Rookie Isaac Toweh rounded out the action in 192nd with a mark of 33:24.32.
 
Overall, Boston University claimed this year's men's varsity title, while UMass Lowell were the winners of the men's sub-varsity race. The Corsairs posted 14th overall in the sub-varsity event, while finishing 14th (345 score) as well in the varsity race (426 score).
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to the course on Saturday, October 5, traveling to Keene, N.H., for the Keene State Invitational. Action begins for the men at 12pm.
