Men's Track & Field Excels at Suffolk Relays

17 finishes in the Top-20 pace Corsairs effort

BOSTON, Mass. – It was an outstanding day of action for the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team, which competed at the 2025 Suffolk University Relays – hosted at The TRACK at New Balance on Saturday. The Corsairs saw 17 finishes in the top 20 on Saturday, paced by two top-10 placings by senior thrower Joseph Uwanogho.
 
Pacing the effort on the day was Uwangoho, who finished second overall in the weight throw with a mark of 18.46 meters (60' 6.75"). He finished second only to a thrower from Division I UConn, posting not only a collegiate-best mark, but also another DIII New England and NEICAAA Qualifying Standard, which he hit on Thursday as well at Bryant.
 
Uwanogho went on to take ninth overall in the shot put with a throw of 13.65 meters (44' 9.50"), which was another DIII New England Qualifying Standard. Rookie Ancil Alexander posted 11th overall in the shot put on the day with a mark of 13.52 meters (44' 4.25"), recording his first DIII New England standard of the season.
 
In the long jump, sophomore Justin Andrade took ninth overall with a distance of 6.43 meters (21' 1.25"), while rookie Scott Amin was 11th overall with a mark of 6.35 meters (20' 9.75"). Rookie Kenny Jean-Michel was 21st with a mark of 6.01 meters (19' 8.75"). The high jump saw rookies Sean Patrone and Scott Amin take 10th and 11th, respectively as both recorded a mark of 1.86 meters (6' 2.25"), while junior Vincenzo Videtta was 12th with a height of 1.85 meters (6' 0.75").
 
The track events were paced by fifth-year Jake Paris, who powered his way to sixth overall in the 5000-meter event with a mark of 15:40.60. In the 60-meter dash, senior Xavier Manuel was 13th overall with a time of 7.09, while junior Jalen Castillo posted 29th overall with a time of 7.27. The 60-meter hurdles were paced by rookie Bryce Tessier, who was 23rd overall in 9.47.
 
In the 200-meter dash, rookie Zane Gordon posted 19th overall with a time of 23.14, while classmate Jonathan Gourdine notched a time of 23.63 – good for 41st overall. The 800-meter run was paced by sophomore Tyler Scanlon as he finished 15th in a time of 2:05.60. Classmate Zack Shute was right behind in 16th with a mark of 2:05.61, while junior James Christie was 25th with a time of 2:10.61.
 
The 1000-meter run was led by sophomore Joseph Stanton, who posted 22nd overall with a time of 2:38.78. Junior Ethan Sylvia finished 57th on the afternoon in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:40.93, while sophomore Cameron Thompson took 22nd overall in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:07.48.
 
In the 1600-meter sprint relay, the Corsairs saw rookie Isaac Toweh, Christie, Stanton and Sylvia combine for a time of 3:50.75 – good for ninth overall. The final event of the night, the 4x400-meter relay, saw UMD with three teams in action. The Corsairs saw the foursome of rookie Daniel Jordan, Tessier, senior Nico LaCortiglia and sophomore Josh Kurutu post seventh overall in a time of 3:41.84, while Shute, Scanlon and sophomores Ben Bairos and James Carriere ran to eighth in 3:53.51. The final relay of Gordon, Gourdine, sophomore RJ Stone and junior Colin Ozturk were ninth overall with a time of 4:03.39.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action next Saturday when it heads to Brandeis University to compete in the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational.
