Men's Track & Field Wins Reggie Poyau Memorial Invite

Corsairs post outstanding effort for meet victory

WALTHAM, Mass. – Powered by four individual wins, 29 Top-10 finishes and 13 personal records, the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team claimed victory at the 2025 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational on Saturday at Brandeis. The Corsairs posted 128 points on the day, besting the nine other teams in the 10-team field.
 
It was an incredible day for the Corsairs field student-athletes as senior Joseph Uwanogho earned victory in the shot put with a personal record and Division III New England qualifying standard mark of 13.99 meters (45' 10.75"). Rookie Ancil Alexander captured second overall, notching a personal record distance of 13.94 meters (45' 9"), while classmate Mickey Valentino was fifth with a personal record mark of 13.19 meters (43' 3.25"). Rookie Kevin Saenz completed the perfect record efforts, notching his own of 11.84 meters (38' 10.25") to take 11th overall.
 
The weight throw saw Uwanogho earn another victory, posting 17.70 meters (58' 1") for his third straight Division III New England qualifying standard and second NEICAAA standard of the season. Alexander notched fifth overall with a throw of 12.83 meters (42' 1.25"), while Valentino was ninth with a mark of 12.01 meters (39' 5"). Saenz rounded out the efforts in 16th with a mark of 10.06 meters (33' .25").
 
In the high jump, junior Vincenzo Videtta won with a mark of 1.95 meters (6' 4.75"). It was not only a DIII New England and NEICAAA qualifying mark, but also the 22nd-best height in Division III this season. Rookie Sean Patrone posted second overall with a mark of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75"), while classmate Scott Amin also had a height of 1.90 meters (6' 2.85"). Rookie Kenny Jean-Michel rounded out the high jump efforts, earning fourth with a mark of 1.85 meters (6' .75").
 
The long jump saw Amin take eighth overall with a distance of 5.94 meters (19' 6"), while Videtta earned ninth overall with a distance of 5.86 meters (19' 2.75"). Rookie Devin Nieves was 12th overall with a jump of 5.69 meters (18' 8"), while junior Jaylan Vaughn was 18th with a distance of 5.35 meters (17' 6.75"). Rounding out the efforts in the long jump was sophomore Kevin Ayala, who was 22nd with a mark of 5.12 meters (16 '9.75").
 
The final field event saw Jean-Michel in the triple jump, earning third overall with a mark of 12.44 meters (40' 9.75").
 
The track events were no less exciting for the Corsairs as rookie Bryce Tessier earned 10th in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal record of 9.23. Classmate Joseph Diauto also notched a personal mark, taking 14th overall in 9.74.
 
In the mile, sophomore Joseph Stanton was third overall in 4:37.94, while rookie Jackson Caron powered his way to fourth in 4:40.61. Sophomore James Carriere was 11th in 4:42.91, while rookie Connor Bruni was 13th in 4:47.10.
 
The 60-meter dash saw an outstanding performance from senior Xavier Manuel, who not only won the event in a personal record time of 6.97, but achieved DIII New England and NEICAAA qualifying standards. Sophomore Justin Andrade was ninth in the event in 7.20, while junior Jalen Castillo was 18th in 7.30.
 
The 500-meters was led by rookie Zane Gordon, who was fifth in 1:07.18. Senior Nico LaCortiglia posted 12th in 1:09.76, while junior James Christie was 19th in 1:14.44. Rookie Jonathan Gourdine was 21st in 1:14.54, while classmate Isaac Toweh earned 25th in 1:17.14.
 
In the 300-meters, rookie Daniel Jordan finished fourth overall with a mark of 36.84, while it was a stacked field in the men's 1,000-meters for the Corsairs. Sophomore Zack Shute earned fifth overall in 2:46.28, while classmate Tyler Scanlon was ninth with a personal record of 2:49.45. Taking 12th was junior Cooper Blatz, who notched a personal record time of 2:52.54, as sophomore Ronan Maloney was 15th with a personal record of 2:53.56. Junior Colin Ozturk took 16th in 2:55.80, while rookie Michael Gemelli was 19th in 2:57.94. Rookie Daniel Terpinas rounded out the action in 20th (2:58.79).
 
In the 3,000-meters, fifth-year Jake Paris finished second overall in 8:51.56, while sophomore Cameron Thompson was third with a personal record time of 8:52.04. Grad student Davis Preston was eighth with a personal record mark of 9:06.93, while junior Ethan Sylvia was 11th in 9:24.90.
 
The Corsairs saw three groups compete in the 4x200-meter relays, paced by Gordon, Tessier, Gourdine and junior Elan Ben Yosef, who took eighth in 1:36.14. The foursome of Andrade, Castillo, Nieves and Manuel were ninth in 1:36.55, as Patrone, Videtta, Amin and JeanMichel were 12th in 1:41.81.
 
In the 4x400-meter relays, Shute, Scanlon, Carriere and Stanton combined to take fourth in 3:46.44. Toweh, Gemelli, Bruni and Caron combined for 10th in 3:55.39, while Sylvia, Ozturk, Blatz and Bairos were 13th in 4:01.84.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on January 25th, traveling to Norton, Mass., to take part in the Lyon Invitational at Wheaton College.
