Women's Track & Field Posts Strong Effort at Brandeis

Corsairs post 22 Top-10 finishes and 13 personal records on Saturday

WALTHAM, Mass. – It was a record setting day for the UMass Dartmouth women's indoor track & field team at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University on Saturday. In addition to 12 personal record marks achieved on the day, the Corsairs also saw 22 finishes in the Top-10.
 
The field events saw senior Neisha Boiteux earn the victory in the shot put, recording a personal record and Division III New England qualifying standard distance of 11.49 meters (37' 8.5"). Sophomore Emily Hesketh was right behind in the event, earning second overall with a personal record throw of 11.22 meters (36' 9.75"), while graduate student Kate Hockenbury completed the sweep at the top in third with a season's best throw of 11.19 meters (36' 8.5").
 
Rookie Olivia Seutter was seventh overall with a mark of 10.32 meters (33' 10.25"), while sophomore Abby O'Leary was 11th with a mark of 9.28 meters (30' .5"). Junior Lauren Donlan was 14th with a throw of 8.99 meters (29' 6"), as rookie Caroline Lander earned 23rd with a personal record throw of 7.98 meters (26' 2.25"). Graduate student Alexa Lemieux rounded out the action in the shot put in 25th with a mark of 7.57 meters (24' 10").
 
In the weight throw, Boiteux posted fourth overall with a season's best mark of 13.24 meters (43' 5.25"). Hockenbury was sixth overall with a personal record mark of 12.66 meters (40' 6.5"), while Hesketh was seventh with a throw of 12.38 meters (40' 7.5"). Donlan was ninth with a personal record of 11.35 meters (37' 3"), while O'Leary notched a personal record of 9.33 meters (30' 7.5") – good for 11th. Lander was 18th (7.94 meters; 26' .75"), while Lemieux was 20th (7.65m; 25' 1.25").
 
The high jump saw junior Isabella Taccogna earn third overall with a height of 1.46 meters (4' 9.5"), while rookie Belleya Franck posted sixth with a personal record height of 1.46 meters (4' 9.5"). Taccogna also competed in the triple jump, earning ninth overall with a mark of 9.64 meters (31' 7.5").
 
Shifting to the track, the Corsairs saw Franck take 10th overall in the 60-meter hurdles, notching a personal record time of 10.38. The mile saw senior Julia Latura take sixth overall in 5:37.29, while classmate Bee Greenberg was eighth in 5:39.94. Sophomore Sarah Lynch recorded a personal record time of 5:59.26, while classmate Sophie Owen was 13th in 6:03.63.
 
The 60-meter dash was paced by rookie Phoebe Gesner, who posted 10th overall in 8.46. The 500-meters saw junior Tori Schweitzer earn eighth in 1:33.73, while sophomore Kyla Palmer was 11th overall in 1:41.56. In the 300-meters, junior Grace Russell posted 15th overall in 48.64, while in the 1,000-meters, rookie Sara Lopez was 10th in 3:23.28.

It was a packed field in the 3,000-meters, led by grad student Emily Philbrook, who was eighth overall in 11:08.09. Senior Anya Aadland was 10th overall in 11:14.65, while grad student Emma Steedman took 11th with a personal record time of 11:15.73. Rookie Alexia Gonsalves notched 20th with a personal record of 12:24.53, while sophomore Serena Carnes crossed in 21st in 12:32.12. Rookie Ashlyn Byrnes finished 24th in a personal record time of 12:54.68, while classmate Lylah Thibeault also notched a personal record with a time of 12:57.44 – good for 25th.
 
In the 4x200-meter relay, Gesner, Franck, Taccogna and Russell combined for sixth overall with a mark of 1:54.62, while in the 4x400-meter relay, the Corsairs saw three different groups compete. The foursome of Steedman, Greenberg, Philbrook and Latura earned seventh overall with a time of 4:47.78, while Gonsalves, Thibeault, Byrnes and Lopez were eighth in 4:56.40.
 
The group of Lynch, Carnes, Owen and Schweitzer rounded out the Corsairs teams, taking ninth overall with a time of 5:08.93.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on January 25th, traveling to Norton, Mass., to take part in the Lyon Invitational at Wheaton College.
