NORTON, Mass. – Powered by four individual wins, 14 personal records and two season's bests, the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team had an outstanding effort at the non-team scoring Lyon Invitational – hosted by Wheaton College on Saturday at the Haas Athletic Center.
The field events got underway with a number of victories, beginning with the high jump as rookie
Kenny Jean-Michel won with a personal record height of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75"). It was a mark that was both a DIII New England and NEICAAA qualifying standard. Classmate

Vincenzo Videtta tied for second overall – both posting a height of 1.85 meters (6' .75").
In the long jump, rookie
Scott Amin posted fourth overall with a mark of 6.24 meters (20' 5.75"), while Videtta was 10th overall with a mark of 5.81 meters (19' .75"). Rookie
Devin Nieves rounded out the action in 13th with a distance of 5.61 meters (18' 5").
Jean-Michel then powered his way to second overall in the triple jump, recording a personal record distance of 12.63 meters (41' 5.25"). In the shot put, rookie
Ancil Alexander claimed victory with a personal record throw of 14.52 meters (47' 7.75"). That mark was a DIII New England qualifying standard. Senior
Joseph Uwanogho placed second overall with a throw of 13.86 meters (45' 5.75"), while rookie
Mickey Valentino was 11th with a mark of 12.41 meters (40' 8.75"). Rounding out the shot put was rookie
Kevin Saenz, who placed 19th with a throw of 11.19 meters (36' 8.5").
In the weight throw, Uwanogho was once again victorious, recording a throw of 18.36 meters (60' 3"). Alexander placed 18th overall with a mark of 11.11 meters (36' 5.5"), while Valentino was 19th (10.65m; 34' 11.25") and Saenz was 21st (10.31m; 33' 10").
Track events got underway in the 60-meter hurdles as rookie
Bryce Tessier was seventh overall in 9.26. Patrone was 14th overall with a personal record of 9.78, while rookie
Joseph Diauto was 17th in 10.37.
In the 60-meter dash, sophomore
Justin Andrade was fourth overall, notching a personal record time of 7.16. Senior
Xavier Manuel placed sixth overall in 7.18, while junior
Jalen Castillo was 12th in 7.31. Sophomore
Kevin Ayala posted 24th overall in a personal record time of 7.57.
The Mile was a Corsair dominant event on Saturday, paced by sophomore
Cameron Thompson, who was third overall in a personal record time of 4:25.01. Fifth-year
Jake Paris also posted a personal record time, notching 4:28.23 for sixth overall, while grad student
Davis Preston was eighth in 4:29.54. Rookie
Jackson Caron was 13th with a personal record time of 4:34.75, while sophomore
Ethan Sylvia was 16th, also boasting a PR time of 4:37.50.
Rounding out the action was sophomore
James Carriere, who was 19th with a personal record time of 4:40.38, while junior
Colin Ozturk posted 24th with a season's best time of 4:54.62.
The 600-meters saw junior
James Christie post second overall with a personal record time of 1:29.54, while rookie
Isaac Toweh was sixth with a time of 1:36.94. The 400-meter invitational saw rookie
Zane Gordon win in a time of 51.11, while senior
Nico LaCortiglia was third in 52.22. Tessier took sixth overall in 52.65, while rookie
Jonathan Gourdine was 12th in 57.21.
In the 400-meter open race, junior
Elan Ben Yosef was third in 59.30, while sophomore
Josh Kurutu was fourth in 1:03.00. It was a packed field for the Corsairs in the 800-meters, led by sophomore
Joseph Stanton in seventh with a time of 2:00.59. Classmate
Tyler Scanlon was 15th overall with a mark of 2:06.15, while sophomore
Zack Shute was 17th in 2:07.62.
Sophomore
Ronan Maloney posted 21st overall in a season-best time of 2:10.02, while classmate
Ben Bairos was 23rd with a PR time of 2:11.06. Junior
Cooper Blatz rounded out the field in 24th with a time of 2:11.56.
In the 200-meter invitational, Manuel posted third overall with a time of 23.01, while rookie
Daniel Jordan was fourth in 23.13. The 200-meter open event was led by Andrade, who notched fifth overall in a personal record time of 23.79, while Castillo was 14th in 24.18. Nieves was 21st in 25.66, while Ayala was 23rd in 25.81. Junior
Fernando Gaspar Rodriguez finished 25th overall in the field, notching a personal record time of 26.47.
In the 5000-meters, rookie
Connor Bruni posted 12th overall with a time of 16:56.29, while the foursome of LaCortiglia, Ben Yosef, Diauto and Gourdine combined to finish sixth overall in the 4x200-meters with a time of 1:36.66.
The men's squad also saw several competitors compete in the mixed 4x400meter relay events. Leading the way was the foursome of junior Isabella Taccogna and Grace Russell, along with Jordan and Gordon, who finished fifth in a time of 4:01.27.
Taking sixth in 4:02.54 was the foursome of grad student Emma Steedman, rookie Sara Lopez, Christie and Stanton, while seniors Julia Latura and Anya Aadland, along with Thompson and Preston were seventh in 4:07.44.
Earning eighth overall in 4:15.47 was the group of junior Tori Schweitzer, senior Bee Greenberg, Caron and Paris, while rookies Ashlyn Byrnes and Alexia Gonsalves with Scanlon and Shute were ninth in 4:17.44.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action next Saturday when both squads return to Norton for the Wheaton Invitational.
