SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Powered by a victory from senior Joseph Uwangoho, the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team opened the 2025 indoor season at the Bryant Indoor Throws Competiton. The Corsairs, who competed in three events in the opener, finished fourth among a field of 10 teams.
Uwangoho paced the way with the win in the weight throw, recording a distance of 17.06 meters (55' 11.75"). That mark was not only a Division III New England qualifying standard, but also an NEICAAA standard as well. He went on to finish 12th overall in the shot put with a mark of 13.36 meters (43'10"). Rookie
Ancil Alexander was the top finisher in the shot put for the Corsairs, placing 12th overall in his debut with a mark of 13.37 meters (43'10.50"), before posting seventh overall in the discus throw with a mark of 39.80 meters (130'7").Â
Also finishing strong in the shot put was rookie
Mickey Valentino, who placed 23rd overall in the event with a distance of 11.70 meters (38'4.75"), while classmate
Kevin Saenz was 35th with a mark of 10.48 meters (34'2.75").
UMass Dartmouth will see the full team in action on Saturday, traveling to Boston to The TRACK at New Balance for the Suffolk Invitational. More details on the meet will follow soon.
