Women's Track & Field Finishes Strong at Wheaton Invitational

Corsairs post 22 top-10 finishes and 14 personal records in Saturday action

NORTON, Mass. – It was a solid day of action for the UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team, which posted 22 Top-10 finishes on Saturday at the Wheaton Invitational at the Haas Athletic Center. The Corsairs, who finished sixth overall on the day, also posted three season's best marks, while notching 14 personal record efforts.
 
Kicking off with the field events, junior Isabella Taccogna was seventh overall with a mark of 1.46 meters (4' 9.5"). Rookie Belleya Frank was right behind, notching eighth with a personal record height of 1.46 meters (4' 9.5") as well.
 
In the weight throw, senior Neisha Boiteux paced the way, finishing ninth overall with a throw of 12.90 meters (42' 4"). Junior Lauren Donlan earned 12th overall with a personal record mark of 11.73 meters (38' 6", while graduate student Kate Hockenbury was 13th with a distance of 11.33 meters (37' 2.25").
 
Sophomore Abby O'Leary went on to earn 17th in the weight throw with a distance of 9.37 meters (30' 9"), while senior Mia Mejia-Maalouf was 19th with a throw of 9.24 meters (30' 3.75"). Graduate student Alexa Lemieux was 20th with a personal record mark of 9.17 meters (30' 1"), while rookie Caroline Lander was 21st with a personal record throw of 9.01 meters (29' 6.75").
 
In the shot put, Hockenbury led the way, earning third overall with a throw of 11.70 meters (38' 4.75") – DIII New England qualifying standard -  while Boiteux was seventh with a mark of 11.08 meters (36' 4.25"). Rookie Olivia Seutter earned 10th overall with a throw of 10.27 meters (33' 8.5"), while Donlan took 13th overall with a makr of 9.59 meters (31' 5.75").
 
O'Leary earned 21st (8.72 meters; 28' 7.5") with Lemieux taking 22nd (8.59 meters; 28' 2.25" – season's best). Mejia-Maalouf was 24th (8.32 meters; 27' 3.75"), while Lander posted a personal record of 7.25 meters (23' 9.5") for 26th.
 
The 1 Mile event saw rookie Ashlyn Byrnes earn 10th overall with a personal record time of 6:08.98, while classmate Lylah Thibeault was 12th overall in 6:18.75. The 60-meter hurdles saw Franck post ninth overall with a time of 10.33, while in the 60-meter dash, rookie Phoebe Gesner was 10th overall with a mark of 8.41.
 
In the 400-meter dash, junior Tori Schweitzer posted ninth overall with a time of 1:08.50, while classmate Grace Russell notched a season's best time of 1:09.31 for 10th overall. Rounding out the action in 11th was sophomore Kyla Palmer, who recorded a time of 1:14.26.
 
The 1,000-meters saw rookie Sara Lopez finish fourth overall, recording a personal record time of 3:20.40, while senior Julia Latura was close behind, taking fifth with a time of 3:23.01. In the 200-meter dash, rookie Zairah Saint-Jean was 11th overall in 32.72, as a stacked 3,000-meters saw six personal records.
 
Graduate student Emma Steedman led the way, earning second overall in the 3,000 with a personal record time of 10:58.03. Senior Bee Greenberg also achieved a PR, taking third in 10:58.60, while graduate student Emily Philbrook recorded her PR time in 11:02.89 for fourth overall. Senior Anya Aadland was seventh with a time of 11:28.88, while sophomore Sophie Owen posted a PR of her own in 10th with a mark of 11:56.08.
 
Rounding out the action for the Corsairs in the 3,000 was sophomore Serena Carnes, who posted 12th with a personal record of 12:11.34, while rookie Alexia Gonsalves achieved a PR of 12:13.13 for 13th overall. Sophomore Sarah Lynch concluded the race with a time of 12:29.83 for 14th.
 
The final event of the day – the 4x400-meter relay – saw three different teams in action for the Corsairs. Pacing the effort in fourth overall with a season's best time of 4:26.36 was Steedman, Aadland, Latura and Lopez.
 
The foursome of Schweitzer, Lynch, Gonsalves and Greenberg earned seventh overall in a time of 4:49.30, while Byrnes, Philbrook, Carnes and Owen finished eighth with a combined time of 5:09.44.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action next weekend with a pair of meets. The Corsairs head to New London, Conn., on Friday for the Coast Guard Winter Challenge, before traveling to Medford, Mass., for the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday.
