CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was another solid day of action for the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team as they competed at the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted by MIT. The Corsairs saw a number of outstanding efforts, including four individual victories, a season best mark and 12 personal records.
In the Mile, rookie
Jackson Caron took third overall with a time of 4:34.87. Sophomore
James Carriere placed ninth overall with a time of 4:41.59, while junior
Colin Ozturk was 12th in a personal record time of 4:46.19. Sophomore
Ronan Maloney was 14th with a time of 4:46.96, while rookie
Daniel Terpinas crossed in 19th with a mark of 5:10.27.
The 400-meter dash saw junior
Nico LaCortiglia win in a season-best time of 51.86, while rookie
Bryce Tessier was second overall in a personal record time of 52.22. Rookie
Jonathan Gourdine placed 12th in a personal record time of 55.35 as sophomore
Josh Kurutu was 17th in 1:02.11. Rounding out the action was junior
Fernando Gaspar Rodriguez, who was 18th in 1:02.70.
In the 600-meters, junior
James Christie claimed victory in a personal record time of 1:28.92. Classmate
Cooper Blatz was fourth in 1:33.73, while rookie
Isaac Toweh finished sixth in 1:35.72.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Tessier advanced to the finals, recording a personal record time of 8.96 to finish seventh overall. The next race saw senior
Xavier Manuel also record a personal record once again, finishing second overall with a time of 6.92 It also marked another DIII New England and NEICAAA qualifying standard.
Next up was the 800-meter run as sophomore
Tyler Scanlon ran to fourth in a time of 2:11.03. Taking sixth was rookie
Jack Barbato in 2:15.48, while rookie
Michael Gemelli was seventh overall in a personal record time of 2:16.15.
The 1,000-meters saw sophomore
Zack Shute place fourth overall in a personal record time of 2:40.09, while in the 200-meters, it was another outstanding effort for rookie
Zane Gordon. Fresh off his effort on Friday in the 400-meters at the Hemery Invite, Gordon won the 200-meters in a personal record time of 23.06.
Gourdine placed fourth overall in the 200-meters with a mark of 23.78, while junior
Jalen Castillo was eighth in 23.95. Rookie
Maddox Dupre earned 13th with a personal record time of 24.39 as junior
Elan Ben Yosef finished 20th in 24.99. Rookie
Kevin Ayala was 22nd with a PR time of 25.03, while classmate
Joseph Diauto finished 23rd in 25.25. Rounding out the action was rookie
Devin Nieves, who was 26th in 25.75.
In the field events, rookie
Ancil Alexander posted third overall in the shot put with a mark of 14.39 meters (47' 2.5") – which was another DIII New England qualifying standard. Classmate
Kevin Saenz posted 12th overall with a throw of 12.62 meters (41' 5"), while rookie
Mickey Valentino was 13th in 12.55 meters (41' 2.25").
The high jump saw another personal record performance as rookie
Sean Patrone won with a jump of 2.00 meters (6' 6.75"). It was not only a DIII New England and NEICAAA qualifying standard, but also the first jump of 2.00 meters since
Cameron Rodgers '24 posted 2.03 meters in 2021.
Also finishing strong in the high jump was rookie
Scott Amin, who posted third with a mark of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75") – which was a season's best mark. Junior
Vincenzo Videtta earned fourth, jumping 1.90 meters (6' 2.75") as well.
In the long jump, sophomore
Justin Andrade finished ninth overall with a distance of 6.22 meters (20' 5"), while Nieves was 11th on the day with a jump of 6.01 meters (19' 8.75"). The final event of the day was the weight throw as Alexander posted 19th overall with a throw of 11.65 meters (38' 2.75"). Valentino was right behind in 20th with a mark of 10.94 meters (35' 10.75"), while Saenz finished 23rd with a throw of 9.83 meters (32' 3").
The Corsairs return to action next weekend when they travel to Rhode Island for the 2025 Little East Conference Indoor Championships. Action takes place on Saturday at the Providence Career & Technical Academy.
