Women's Track & Field Posts Strong Efforts at Hemery & Kelly Invites

Corsairs see nine personal records achieved and a season's best in Boston & Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE & BOSTON, Mass. – It was a busy day for the UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team as two student-athletes competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invite at Boston University, while the remainder of the squad was at the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted by MIT.  The Corsairs saw nine personal records and a season best mark on the day.
 
At the multi-divisional Hemery Invite, the Corsairs saw senior Julia Latura and graduate student Emma Steedman both in action. Latura competed in the 800-meter run, posting  a personal record time of 2:26.68 to earn 197th in a tough field. Steedman notched a time of 5:25.57 in the Mile event – finishing 270th overall in another challenging field of athletes.
 
Heading over to Cambridge, the Corsairs got things going in the 3000-meters as graduate student Emily Philbrook posted third overall with a time of 11:13.48. Sophomore Sarah Lynch was eighth overall with a personal record time of 11:34.17. Rookie Alexia Gonsalves placed 15th, notching a personal record time of 12:06.67, while sophomore Sophie Owen was 16th in 12:25.57. Rookie Lylah Thibeault rounded out the action, earning 17th with a personal record time of 12:37.76.
 
In the Mile, senior Anya Aadland was sixth with a time of 5:41.76 as sophomore Serena Carnes placed 12th with a personal record time of 6:18.24. Rookie Belleya Franck posted 12th in the 60-meter hurdles, while classmate Phoebe Gesner was 10th in the 60-meter dash with a mark of 8.45.
 
The 400-meters saw junior Grace Russell place ninth overall with a season's best time of 1:07.22, while sophomore Kyla Palmer was 14th in 1:15.29.
 
In the 800-meter run, rookie Sara Lopez had a fantastic effort, placing second overall with a personal record time of 2:31.19. Senior Bee Greenberg also had a fine effort, earning second in the 1000-meters with a time of 3:19.56.
 
The final track event was the 4x400-meter relay, which finished in a time of 4:31.58. The relay foursome included Gesner, Taccogna, Franck and Russell.
 
In the field events, graduate student Kate Hockenbury posted sixth overall in the shot put with a mark of 11.15 meters (36' 7"). Sophomore Emily Hesketh was seventh in 11.08 meters (36' 4.25"), while rookie Olivia Seutter was 20th overall with a throw of 9.94 meters (32' 7.5"). Sophomore Abby O'Leary was 28th with a mark of 8.82 meters (28' 11.25"), while junior Laurne Donlan was 31st with a throw of 8.55 meters (28' 0.75").
 
Senior Mia Mejia-Maalouf posted 35th in the shot put with a throw of 8.46 meters (27' 9.25"), while graduate student Alexa Lemieux was 39th with a mark of 7.52 meters (24' 8.25"). Rounding out the action was rookie Caroline Lander, who posted 41st with a distance of 6.98 meters (22' 10.75").
 
In the high jump, junior Isabella Taccogna posted fourth overall with a height of 1.51 meters (4' 11.5"), while Franck finished 14th with a mark of 1.46 meters (4' 9.5").
 
The weight throw saw Hesketh earn sixth overall with a personal record throw of 14.64 meters (48' 0.5"), while Donlan finished 16th with a mark of 11.91 meters (39' 1"). Mejia-Maalouf was 17th with a personal record throw of 11.85 meters (38' 10.5") as Hockenbury took 21st with a throw of 11.20 meters (36' 9").
 
Seutter was 23rd overall, notching a personal record distance in the weight throw of 10.94 meters (35' 10.75"), while Lander was 33rd with a mark of 8.81 meters (28' 11"). Lemieux was 34th with a throw of 8.77 meters (28' 9.25"), while O'Leary rounded out the action with a distance of 8.74 meters (28' 8.25") which was 35th overall.
 
The Corsairs return to action next weekend when they travel to Rhode Island for the 2025 Little East Conference Indoor Championships. Action takes place on Saturday at the Providence Career & Technical Academy.
