Men's Track & Field Finishes Second at LEC Championships

Corsairs see two individual champions, multiple All-Conference honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Powered by two individual champion efforts, multiple All-Conference honors and a bevy of personal records, the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team finished second overall at the 2025 Little East Conference Indoor Championships – hosted at the Providence Career & Technical Academy. The Corsairs posted 113 points on the day, finishing behind Southern Maine (149) and being only one of two teams with 100+ points in the field.
 
Track action kicked off with the 5000-meter run as fifth year Jake Paris finished second overall with a time of 15:18.95 to earn the silver medal and All-LEC Second Team honors. Next up was the 4x200-meter relay that saw rookie Daniel Jordan, sophomore Justin Andrade, junior Jalen Castillo and rookie Maddox Dupre earn fourth overall with a time of 1:33.99.
 
In the 1 Mile event, sophomore Cameron Thompson took home the silver medal and All-LEC Second Team recognition after placing runner-up with a personal record time of 4:20.87. That time – which eclipsed his previous best set in January (4:25.01) was also a Division III New England qualifying standard.
 
Also competing strong for the Corsairs was graduate student Davis Preston, who placed fourth overall with a time of 4:24.10. Sophomore James Carriere was ninth with a mark of 4:38.51, while classmate Ronan Maloney posted 10th with a time of 4:40.10. Junior Ethan Sylvia was 11th in 4:41.50, followed by rookie Connor Bruni in 13th with a time of 4:45.59. Junior Colin Ozturk (15th – 4:57.71) and freshman Daniel Terpinas (16th – 5:12.52) rounded out the Mile field.
 
In the 60-meter hurdles, rookie Bryce Tessier placed eighth overall with a mark of 9.51, while in the 400-meter dash, freshman Zane Gordon took home the bronze medal and Third Team recognition in third with a time of 50.52. The 600-meter run was paced by sophomore Joseph Stanton, who captured the silver medal and All-LEC Second Team with a runner-up finish of 1:24.71. It marked a new personal record for Stanton and was also a Division III New England qualifying standard.
 
Junior Nico LaCortiglia also posted a solid effort for UMD, taking sixth overall with a time of 1:26.88 in the 600m. Classmate James Christie powered his way to 12th overall in 1:30.02, while rookie Isaac Toweh was 14th in 1:33.28. The 60-meter dash saw senior Xavier Manuel earn the silver medal and All-LEC Second Team recognition, earning runner-up with a time of 6.97. Castillo posted ninth overall with a time of 7.21.
 
The 800-meter run saw sophomore Tyler Scanlon earn eighth in a time of 2:05.62, while junior Cooper Blatz was 10th in 2:11.45. Sophomore Ben Bairos posted 11th in 2:11.53, followed by rookies Michael Gemelli and Jack Barbato who were 12th (2:13.33) and 13th (2:14.41), respectively.
 
The 1000-meter run saw the Corsairs first champion on the track as Preston won with a personal record time of 2:35.85. In addition to a personal best, the mark was also a Division III New England qualifying standard. Sophomore Zack Shute was eighth overall in the event with a time of 2:42.12, while rookie Jackson Caron was ninth in 2:52.53.
 
In the 200-meter dash, the Corsairs saw Manuel finish fifth overall with a time of 22.80. Jordan was eighth with a time of 23.28. Next up was the 3000-meter run as Paris once again claimed the silver medal and All-LEC Second Team honors after posting a time of 8:57.65 for runner-up. Thompson also finished strong, earning fifth overall in 9:09.98.
 
The final relays of the day began with the 4x800-meters as the foursome of Shute, Carriere, Maloney and Stanton earned the silver medal and All-LEC Second Team honors after combining for a runner-up finish of 8:15.99. The meet concluded for the Corsairs on the track in the 4x400-meter relay as Gordon, LaCortiglia, rookie Jonathan Gourdine and Christie posted sixth overall with a time of 3:41.47.
 
In the field events, the long jump saw Andrade finish fifth overall, recording a height of 6.50 meters (21' 4"), while rookie Devin Nieves placed ninth with a mark of 6.17 meters (20' 3"). In the weight throw, rookie Mickey Valentino was 15th overall with a throw of 8.92 meters (29' 3"), while the high jump saw a 1-2-3 finish for the Blue & Gold.
 
Rookie Kenny Jean-Michel was crowned the 2025 indoor high jump champion with a personal record mark of 1.98 meters (6' 6") to earn the gold medal and All-LEC First Team honors. Junior Vincenzo Videtta placed second on the day, grabbing silver and Second Team recognition with a jump of 1.94 meters (6' 4.5"), while rookie Sean Patrone posted third, earning the bronze medal and Third Team honors with a height of 1.94 meters (6' 4.5"). Freshman Scott Amin rounded out the field for UMD in seventh with a mark of 1.85 meters (6' .75").
 
In the shot put, rookie Ancil Alexander earned a silver medal and All-LEC Second Team honors after posting a runner-up finish and personal record mark of 14.89 meters (48' 10.25"). It marked yet another DIII New England qualifying standard for the freshman. Also finishing strong in the event was Valentino, who earned seventh overall with a throw of 13.08 meters (42' 11"), while fellow rookie Kevin Saenz was eighth with a throw of 12.79 meters (41' 11.5") – tying his personal best.
 
The Corsairs will see qualified individuals return to action next week at the 2025 Division III New England Championships. The event will be held February 28-March 1 at The TRACK at New Balance in Boston.
