PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was an outstanding day of competition for the UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team, who saw a championship win and a number of All-Conference performances at the 2025 Little East Conference Indoor Championship on Saturday – hosted at the Providence Career & Technical Academy. The Corsairs finished seventh overall, compiling 52 points.
The Corsairs kicked things off on the track in fine fashion as graduate student
Emily Philbrook posted third overall in the 5000-meters with a time of 18:53.41. It marked a personal record for Philbrook – besting her previous mark of 19:09.44 set earlier this year in Boston – garnering her a bronze medal and All-LEC Third Team honors. Senior
Bee Greenberg also had an outstanding performance, finishing fourth overall in a personal record time of 18:55.52, while sophomore
Sophie Owen placed 12th overall in 20:47.57.
In the 60-meter hurdles, rookie
Zairah Saint-Jean posted 11th overall in 11.71, while classmate
Phoebe Gesner was 12th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.34. Next up was the 4x200-meter relay as Gesner, sophomore
Kyla Palmer and juniors
Tori Schweitzer and
Grace Russell combined to place seventh in a time of 1:59.07.
The Mile event was paced by graduate student
Emma Steedman, who earned third overall for the Corsairs with a personal record time of 5:17.75. In addition to the bronze medal and All-LEC Third Team, the performance also marked a Division III New England qualifying standard. Senior
Anya Aadland also finished strong, earning seventh with a time of 5:42.72.
In the 400-meter dash, Russell finished 10th overall with a time of 1:05.78, while in the 600-meters, Schweitzer posted 10th in a time of 1:54.67. The Corsairs also saw Palmer in the 600m, posting 14th in 2:01.79.
The 800-meter run saw another bronze medal for UMD as senior
Julia Latura posted third overall, claiming All-LEC Third Team honors with a mark of 2:28.39. That mark was just shy of her personal record (2:28.36). In the 1000-meters, rookie
Sara Lopez posted sixth overall with a time of 3:17.23, while classmate
Ashlyn Byrnes finished eighth in 3:29.78.
The 3000-meters was paced by Greenberg, who finished fourth overall in a time of 11:05.12, while Philbrook was close behind in sixth with a mark of 11:18.31. Rounding out the action in the 3000m was rookie
Alexia Gonsalves, who earned 12th in 12:13.46.
In the final relays of the day, the 4x800-meters claimed victory and the gold medal as Latura, Aadland, Byrnes and sophomore
Serena Carnes combined for a time of 10:41.51. All four are now All-LEC First Team honorees. The last relay – the 4x400-meters – saw the Corsairs place fourth overall as Gesner, Steedman, Taccogna and Lopez combined for a time of 4:20.08.
In the field events, the Corsairs saw sophomore
Emily Hesketh earn the bronze medal and All-LEC Third Team honors with a throw of 14.40 meters (47' 3"). Senior
Neisha Boiteux was 13th overall with a mark of 11.78 meters (38' 8"), while junior
Lauren Donlan posted 14th with a throw of 11.50 meters (37' 9"). Senior
Mia Mejia-Maalouf rounded out the action in 15th with a distance of 11.14 meters (36' 7").
The high jump saw junior
Isabella Taccogna earn fifth overall, notching a height of 1.53 meters (5' .25"), while in the shot put, graduate student
Kate Hockenbury posted fifth overall with a throw of 11.49 meters (37' 8.25"). Rookie
Olivia Seutter posted eighth in the shot put with a mark of 10.81 meters (35' 5.5"), while Boiteux was ninth with a mark of 10.76 meters (35' 3.5"). Hesketh finished 11th with a throw of 10.30 meters (33' 9.5") as Donlan took 15th with a throw of 9.52 meters (31' 2.75").
In the last field event of the day, the triple jump Taccogna returned to action, finishing 10th with a distance of 9.78 meters (32' 1").
The Corsairs will see qualified individuals return to action next week at the 2025 Division III New England Championships. The event will be held February 28-March 1 at The TRACK at New Balance in Boston.
