NEW LONDON, Conn. – The UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team was back in action on Friday, competing at the Coast Guard Winter Invite 2 at Gregory Field House. The Corsairs saw a number of outstanding efforts, including two wins on the night, to take sixth overall with 42 points.
The Corsairs got things going in the high jump as rookie
Sean Patrone won with a collegiate-best mark of 1.95 meters (6'4.75"). It was also a DIII New England and NEICAAA qualifying standard. Junior
Vincenzo Videtta earned second overall, posting a height of 1.85 meters (6' 0.75), while rookie
Kenny Jean-Michel was third, also with a jump of 1.85 meters (6' 0.75"). Rounding out the action was rookie
Scott Amin, who was fifth with a jump of 1.85 meters (6' 0.75").
Next up was the weight throw as senior
Joseph Uwanogho posted his fifth win – and fourth consecutive – with a throw of 18.00 meters (59' 1"). That mark was another DIII New England and NEICAA qualifying standard. Rookie
Mickey Valentino took 17th overall with a mark of 12.44 meters (40' 10"), while classmate
Ancil Alexander was 28th with a throw of 10.28 meters (33' 9"). Wrapping up the weight throw was rookie
Kevin Saenz, who recorded a distance of 9.60 meters (31' 6").
In the long jump, rookie
Devin Nieves placed 11th overall with a jump of 5.88 meters (19' 3.50"), while Jean-Michel was 15th with a distance of 5.75 meters (18' 0.50"). Videtta posted 20th overall with a mark of 5.62 meters (18' 5.25"), while senior
Jaylan Vaughn was 22nd with a jump of 5.56 meters (18' 3").
The final field event saw Alexander post third overall in the shot put with a throw of 13.75 meters (45' 1.25"). It marked another DIII New England qualifying standard for the rookie. Saenz was seventh with a distance of 12.79 meters (41' 11.5"), while Valentino was eighth with a mark of 12.72 meters (41' 8.75").
In the track events, rookie
Joseph Diauto placed ninth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.54, while in the 55-meter dash, classmate
Maddox Dupre was 15th with a mark of 6.79. Nieves also competed in the 55-dash, posting a time of 7.01 for 34th overall.
Sophomore
RJ Stone was in action in the 400-meter dash, notching a time of 57.03 to take 20th while Diauto was 28th with a time of 58.89. Junior
Fernando Gaspar Rodriguez posted a time of 1:02.13 for 32nd, while sophomore
Josh Kurutu had a time of 1:02.61 for 33rd overall.
In the 200-meter dash, Dupre recorded a time of 25.15 for 32nd as Patrone tooke 39th with a time of 25.76. Nieves had a time of 26.17 for 42nd as Vaughn posted a mark of 26.22 for 43rd overall. Gaspar Rodriguez finished in 26.66 for 45th as Kurutu posted a time of 27.16 for 49th.
The Corsairs are right back in action on Saturday, traveling to Medford, Mass., to compete in the Tufts Cupid Challenge. Action gets underway at 10am.
