NEW LONDON, Conn. – It was a solid night of action for the UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team, who competed at the Coast Guard Winter Invite 2 on Friday at Gregory Field House. The Corsairs finished sixth overall with a combined 31 points – powered by a number of strong results.
The field events got going in the long jump as junior
Isabella Taccogna placed eighth overall with a distance of 4.56 meters (14' 11.5"). Rookie
Zairah Saint-Jean placed 12th overall with a mark of 4.28 meters (14' 0.50").
In the weight throw, sophomore
Emily Hesketh took second overall with a collegiate-best throw of 14.28 meters (46' 10"). That mark was also a Division III New England qualifying standard. Senior
Neisha Boiteux posted fourth overall with a throw of 12.77 meters (41' 11"), while junior
Lauren Donlan took seventh with a mark of 11.99 meters (39' 4").
Senior
Mia Mejia-Maalouf posted 11th with a distance of 10.86 meters (35' 8") as grad student
Kate Hockenbury took 15th overall with a throw of 10.35 meters (33' 11"). Rookie
Caroline Lander was 17th, recording a mark of 10.07 meters (33'), while sophomore
Abby O'Leary was 21st with a distance of 9.87 meters (32' 5"). Rookie
Olivia Seutter posted 25th with a mark of 9.61 meters (31' 6") as grad student
Alexa Lemieux rounded out the action in 26th with a throw of 9.45 meters (31').
The high jump saw Taccogna place second overall with a height of 1.53 meters (5' 0.25") as Hockenbury went on to earn third overall in the shot put with a collegiate-best distance of 11.89 meters (39'). It marked another DIII New England qualifying standard for the grad student. Boiteux grabbed fourth with a mark of 11.43 meters (37' 6"), while Seutter was seventh with a throw of 10.10 meters (33' 1.75").
Donlan was 12th overall in the shot put with a mark of 9.48 meters (31' 1.25") followed by O'Leary in 15th with a throw of 9.06 meters (29' 8.75"). Hesketh was 18th overall with a mark of 8.76 meters (28' 9") as Mejia-Maalouf posted 20th with a throw of 8.65 meters (28' 4.5").
The field events concluded with Taccogna in the triple jump as the junior posted a mark of 9.82 meters (32' 2.5") – earning sixth overall.
In the track events, Saint-Jean competed in the 55-meter hurdles, taking 14th in 11.07, before competing in the 55-meter dash – earning 23rd – with a time of 8.63. Lemieux was 23rd with 8.35 meters (27' 4.75") and Lander finished 26th with 7.30 meters (23' 11.5").
The Corsairs are right back in action on Saturday, traveling to Medford, Mass., to compete in the Tufts Cupid Challenge. Action gets underway at 10am.
