MEDFORD, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team saw a number of solid performances on Saturday, competing at the Tufts Cupid Challenge at the Gantcher Athletic Center. It was a non-team scoring meet for the Corsairs, who had five top-10 finishes on the day.
In the 60-meter dash, rookie
Phoebe Gesner powered her way to 12th with a time of 8.29. The 5000-meters saw senior
Bee Greenberg with an outstanding effort, crossing in second overall with a mark of 18:58.09. Graduate student
Emily Philbrook was fourth in 19:09.69, while sophomore
Sarah Lynch took sixth in 21:00.53. Sophomore
Serena Carnes completed the top-10 effort in the event, earning seventh with a time of 21:29.20.
The 1-Mile race saw grad student
Emma Steedman earn 16th overall in 5:23.10, while rookie
Sara Lopez took 30th in 5:53.61. Rookies
Alexia Gonsalves and
Lylah Thibeault went on to finish 38th (6:15.69) and 39th (6:26.15), respectively.
In the 400-meter dash, junior
Grace Russell powered her way to 19th overall with a time of 1:07.67, while in the 600-meters, classmate
Tori Schweitzer finished 26th in 1:54.30. Sophomore
Kyla Palmer posted 27th in the 400m with a time of 2:03.79.
Senior
Julia Latura paced the way in the 800-meters, placing ninth overall in 2:29.37. Steedman crossed in 13th (2:32.78), while Lopez took 14th (2:36.35). Gonsalves was 17th (2:52.25), while Thibeault finished 18th (2:59.51).
In the 1000-meters, rookie
Ashlyn Byrnes posted 19th overall with a time of 3:28.52, while Gesner notched 16th overall in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 28.27.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action next weekend with a pair of meets in the Boston area. The Corsairs women will see competitors head to Boston University on Saturday for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, while others will compete at the Gordon Kelly Invitational at MIT.
