BOSTON, Mass. – It was a solid day of action for the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team, who concluded action at the Division III New England Championships on Saturday. The Corsairs finished 25th overall of 32 teams, backed by a number of outstanding performances.
In the 1 Mile event, sophomore
Cameron Thompson ran to 13th overall with a personal record time of 4:19.64. It was not only the eighth-best performance in program history, it also marked the sophomore's first sub-4:20 time in the event.
Rookie
Zane Gordon was up next in the 400-meter dash as he posted 14th overall with a personal record time of 49.05 – a mark that moves him into the top-30 in NCAA Division III. Fifth year
Jake Paris was in action in the 3000-meters, earning 17th overall with a time of 8:43.07.
In the 4x800 meter relay, the foursome of graduate student
Davis Preston, Thompson and sophomores
James Carriere and
Joseph Stanton placed 10th with a time of 7:58.58. That mark was the fourth-best all-time performance in program history.
The final event of the day was the high jump, which saw three competitors for the Corsairs. Pacing the way was rookie
Kenny Jean-Michel, who recorded a personal record height of 1.99 meters (6' 6.25") to earn fifth overall. The freshman, who is fresh off winning the high jump title at last week's Little East Championship, also posted an NEICAAA qualifying standard.
Taking seventh overall was rookie
Sean Patrone, who posted a mark of 1.95 meters (6' 4.75") – another NEICAAA standard - while junior
Vincenzo Videtta was 11th overall with a height of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75") – also an NEICAAA qualifying standard.
The Corsairs return to action next week with qualified individuals competing at the Open New England Championships on Friday and Saturday, while other will head to the Tufts National Qualifier Meet on Saturday in Medford.
