DARTMOUTH, Mass. – It was an outstanding day of action for the UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team as they hosted the Corsair Classic on Saturday. The Corsairs finished fifth overall in the 14 team field with 86.5 points.
The field events got off to a great start in the shot put as graduate student
Kate Hockenbury was third overall with a mark of 10.95 meters (35' 11"). Rookie
Olivia Seutter posted ninth with a throw of 9.92 meters (32' 6.50"), followed by senior
Neisha Boiteux in 10th with a mark of 9.58 meters (31' 5.25").
Sophomore
Abby O'Leary posted 18th with a mark of 8.58 meters (28' 1.75") as senior
Lauren Donlan had a throw of 8.43 meters (27' 8") – good for 23rd. Senior
Mia Mejia-Maalouf was 25th with a mark of 8.34 meters (27' 4.25"), while grad student
Alexa Lemieux rounded out the event in 28th with a throw of 8.12 meters (26 ' 7.75").
The high jump saw junior
Isabella Taccogna earn fifth overall with a height of 1.46 meters (4' 9.50"), while rookie
Belleya Franck was ninth with a jump of 1.41 meters (4' 7.5").
Boiteux captured the hammer throw title, winning with a throw of 39.71 meters (130' 3"), while Mejia-Maalouf posted second with a distance of 37.88 meters (124' 3"). Junior
Lauren Donlan took sixth with a mark of 36.17 meters (118' 8") as Hockenbury, Lemieux and sophomore
Emily Hesketh went 12th (32.76m; 107'6"), 13th (32.45m; 106' 6") and 14th (32.20m; 105' 1"), respectively.
O'Leary posted 21st overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 27.67 meters (90' 9"), while Seutter was 23rd with a throw of 26.94 meters (88' 5"). Rookie
Caroline Lander closed out the event with a throw of 21.09 meters (69' 2").
In the javelin throw, Mejia-Maalouf was 11th overall with a throw of 28.80 meters (94' 6"), while junior
Grace Russell finished 13th with a distance of 27.52 meters (90' 3"). Hockenbury was 19th with a mark of 24.48 meters (80' 4"), followed by Lemieux in 21st with a throw of 23.24 meters (76' 3"). Lander rounded out the action with a mark of 21.04 meters (69' 0") for 27th overall.
Boiteux continued her excellent performance in the discus throw, recording second overall with a mark of 35.47 meters (116' 4"). The Corsairs gained valuable points as Seutter placed third overall with a mark of 32.23 meters (105' 9"), while Hesketh was fourth with a throw of 31.44 meters (103' 2"). Donlan posted 17th with a throw of 24.73 meters (81' 2") as Lander posted a distance of 21.21 meters (69' 7") – taking 26th overall.
Switching to the track the Corsairs saw graduate student
Emma Steedman lead things off with a win in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish in 12:02.39. Senior
Bee Greenberg was close behind in third, crossing in 12:28.61, while rookie
Alexia Gonsalves was fifth in 13:31.67.
In the 1500-meter run, senior
Anya Aadland posted 18th overall with a time of 5:22.07, while rookie
Ashlyn Byrnes was 23rd in 5:28.69. Sophomore
Sophie Owen crossed the finish line in 25th with a time of 5:30.97, while rookies
Lylah Thibeault and
Olivia DeSimone were 37th (6:00.95) and 41st (6:08.88), respectively.
Next up in the 100-meter hurdles, Franck posted sixth with a time of 18.05, while in the 400-meter dash, sophomore
Kyla Palmer was 21st in 1:11.19. The 100-meter dash featured rookie
Phoebe Gesner earn 11th overall with a mark of 13.51, while in the 800-meter run, rookie
Sara Lopez finished fifth overall in 2:32.52.
Junior
Tori Schweitzer earned ninth overall in the 800, posting a time of 2:34.91 as senior
Julia Latura was close behind in 10th with a mark of 2:35.48. The 400-meter hurdles saw Russell place ninth overall with a time of 1:15.63 as Gesner returned in the 200-meter dash, placing eighth with a time of 27.84. Taccogna was 14th overall in 28.29 while rookie
Erica Markey had a time of 31.69 to finish 46th.
The 5,000-meter run saw grad student
Emily Philbrook cross the line in eighth overall with a time of 18:55.25 as sophomore
Sarah Lynch was 13th in 19:57.23. Rounding out the 5000-field was sophomore
Serena Carnes – notching a time of 20:48.15 for 22nd.
In the final event of the day, the 4x400-meter relay, the Corsairs saw Steedman, Latura, Lopez and Aadland combine for a time of 4:22.18 – taking second overall. UMD also saw Schweitzer, Gonsalves, Byrnes and Greenberg finish seventh in 4:41.43, while Palmer, Thibeault, DeSimone and Owen were eighth in 5:14.50.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action next weekend, traveling to Coast Guard for the Bears Spring Invitational on Saturday in New London, Conn.
