Men's Track & Field Posts Strong Effort at Two Meets

Corsairs see 14 in action at the Tufts Qualifer and Open New England Championships

MEDFORD/BOSTON, Mass. – It was a busy day of action for the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team, who competed at the Tufts National Qualifier, along with the Open New England Championships on Saturday.
 
The day kicked off in Medford at the Tisch Sports Center of Tufts University as the Corsairs saw four different events contested on the men's side. The Distance Medley Relay got things going, as grad student Davis Preston, rookie Zane Gordon and sophomores Joseph Stanton and Cameron Thompson took 11th overall. The foursome posted a combined time of 10:23.29.
 
In the 400-meter dash, Gordon powered his way to fourth overall with a time of 50.05. Next up in the field events, sophomore Justin Andrade posted seventh overall in the long jump with a distance of 6.54 meters (21' 5.5").
 
Rounding out the action at Tufts was the Corsairs high jump crew, led by rookie Scott Amin who posted a personal record height of 1.93 meters (6' 4") to take fifth overall. Classmate Sean Patrone also posted fifth with an equal height of 1.93 meters (6' 4"), while rookie Kenny Jean-Michel was seventh with a jump of 1.93 meters (6' 4"). Junior Vincenzo Videtta concluded the event in 10th with a mark of 1.88 meters (6' 2").
 
Action then shifted to the Reggie Lewis Center and the Open New England Championships as fifth-year Jake Paris kicked things off in the 3,000-meter run. He earned 11th overall with a time of 8:38.90.
 
The day concluded with the 4x800-meter relay as sophomores Zack Shute, James Carriere, Tyler Scanlon and Ronan Maloney finished fourth overall with a combined time of 8:07.35.
 
The NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Sunday, March 9 as the Corsairs wait to see how the field plays out. UMass Dartmouth will then open the outdoor season on Saturday, March 22 at the Wesleyan J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic.
