Women's Track & Field Finishes Solid at Tufts & Open NE

Corsairs see six student-athletes in action on Saturday at multiple meets

MEDFORD/BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team was on the move on Saturday, competing at the Tufts National Qualifer and the Open New England Championships in a number of events.
 
The Corsairs opened the day at the Tisch Sports Center, beginning with the shot put event. Graduate student Kate Hockenbury led the way, taking fourth overall with a throw of 11.54 meters (37' 10.5").
 
Next up in the weight throw, sophomore Emily Hesketh was seventh on the day, posting a distance of 13.88 meters (45' 6.5").
 
Action shifted to the Reggie Lewis Center and the Open New England Championships as the 4x800-meter relay team took to the track. The Corsairs saw grad student Emma Steedman, senior Julia Latura, rookie Sara Lopez and senior Bee Greenberg combined to take seventh overall with a time of 9:56.54.
 
The NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Sunday, March 9 as the Corsairs wait to see how the field plays out. UMass Dartmouth will then open the outdoor season on Saturday, March 22 at the Wesleyan J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic.
