NEW LONDON, Conn. – It was a solid night of competition for a number of UMass Dartmouth men's track and field athletes – in action at the 2025 Silfen Invitational – at Connecticut College. The Corsairs saw a number of outstanding finishes, including five personal record efforts.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, graduate student
Davis Preston finished sixth overall, posting a personal record time of 10:05.57. The 800-meter run saw sophomore
Joseph Stanton post 11th overall, crossing with a mark of 1:57.77. Classmate
Zack Shute also finished solid in the 800m with a time of 2:03.78 – good for 41st in a strong field.
Another round of personal records came in the 1,500-meter run, paced by sophomore
Cameron Thompson as he posted fifth overall with a PR time of 4:00.44. Classmate
James Carriere ran a personal record time of 4:13.03, which was good for 19th overall.
Action wrapped up for the Corsairs in the 10,000-meter run as junior
Ethan Sylvia finished 10th overall in his first-ever collegiate running of the event. He recorded a personal record time of 31:59.60. Fifth-year
Jake Paris also finished strong in the event, placing 17th overall with a personal record time of 33:12.18.
UMass Dartmouth will see the rest of the squad head to Westfield State on Sunday as this year's Jerry Gravel Invitational was moved due to inclement weather expected on Saturday. Action gets underway at 10am with the field events as track events get underway at 12pm.
