Men's Track & Field Wins 2025 LEC Outdoor Championship Title!

Corsairs earn fifth outdoor title in program history - third since 2022 season

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Backed by seven event victories and countless top-three finishes, the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team claimed victory at the 2025 Little East Outdoor Championships on Sunday. The Corsairs compiled 137.50 points, edging Southern Maine (133), to claim their fifth outdoor championship title in program history and the third since the 2022 season.
 
The Corsairs saw a bevy of wins in the field events, paced by rookie Ancil Alexander, who produced a collegiate best and D3 New England qualifying mark of 16.43 meters (53' 11") to claim his first individual title in the shot put. It was also the 14th-best throw in Division III this season. The Corsairs also saw rookie Kevin Saenz post 12th overall with a mark of 11.69 meters (38' 4.25"), while classmate Mickey Valentino was 15th with a throw of 10.71 meters (35' 1.75").
 
Alexander went on to earn the win and All-LEC First Team honors in the discus throw, notching another personal-best mark of 52.94 meters (173' 8") on his final throw of the day. It was not only another D3 New England qualifying mark, but was set a new LEC Championship record as he once again eclipsed his own school record in the event. It was also the fourth best throw in Division III so far this season. Saenz went on to finish sixth with a D3 New England qualifying mark of 41.49 meters (136' 1").
 
In the javelin throw, senior Connor Richard captured his first LEC Championship crown, finishing with a collegiate best and D3 New England throw of 62.31 meters (204' 5"). His mark was also the 12th best throw in Division III this season. The hammer throw saw Valentino post 11th overall with a mark of 39.04 meters (128' 1").
 
The high jump saw rookie Sean Patrone post a collegiate best and D3 New England qualifying mark of 2.02 meters (6' 7.5") to earn his first LEC title and All-LEC First Team honors, while junior Vincenzo Videtta was sixth with a height of 1.80 meters (5' 10.75"). Rookie Scott Amin also posted a mark of 1.80 meters (5' 10.75"), taking eighth overall.
 
Long jump action saw rookie Devin Nieves earn 15th overall with a jump of 5.19 meters (17' 0.5"), while rookie Scott Amin was fourth overall in the triple jump with a D3 New England qualifying mark of 13.15 meters (43' 1.75").
 
On the track side, the Corsairs grabbed another gold medal and All-LEC First Team honors as the foursome of sophomore Justin Andrade, rookies Daniel Jordan and Zane Gordon, along with senior Xavier Manuel won in a time of 42.11.
 
The victories continued in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as graduate student Davis Preston recorded a collegiate best and D3 New England qualifying mark of 9:56.40 for the win, while sophomore Ronan Maloney also finished strong, earning sixth in 10:34.25.
 
Sophomore Cameron Thompson went on to grab the silver medal and All-LEC Second Team honors after posting second overall in 4:07.78 in the 1,500-meter run. Junior Colin Ozturk posted 11th overall in 4:35.29, while junior Cooper Blatz was 14th in 4:40.84. Rounding out the action was rookie Daniel Terpinas, finishing 15th overall in 4:41.91.
 
In the 110-meter hurdles, rookie Bryce Tessier nabbed bronze and All-LEC Third Team recognition after taking third in a D3 New England qualifying time of 15.40. Next up was the 400-meter dash as rookie Zane Gordon added gold to his resume with the victory in a D3 New England qualifying time of 49.51. Jordan posted ninth overall in the event with a time of 51.09.
 
The 100-meter dash saw Manuel pick up individual bronze with a D3 New England qualifying time of 10.85 for third overall. The 800-meter run saw sophomore Joseph Stanton post fourth overall in a time of 1:57.94, while sophomores James Carriere and Zack Shute finish ninth (2:02.09) and 10th (2:02.57), respectively. Sophomore Tyler Scanlon rounded out the event field for UMD, earning 14th overall in 2:05.95.
 
Tessier returned in the 400-meter hurdles, adding silver to his collection as he posted runner-up with a D3 New England qualifying and collegiate best mark of 55.68. Sophomore Josh Kurutu was 14th overall in 1:05.55 in the same event.
 
Next up was the 200-meter dash as Gordon posted fourth overall with a D3 New England and collegiate best time of 22.19. Jordan was close behind in fifth with a time of 22.24 – another collegiate-best and D3 New England qualifying mark – while Manuel was sixth in 22.25 .
 
In the 5,000-meters, fifth-year Jake Paris nabbed silver with second overall as he finished in 15:35.26, while junior Ethan Sylvia was seventh in 15:54.96. Rookie Connor Bruni posted 10th in 16:14.54 as grad student Frank Wenner was 11th in 16:17.44.
 
The 4x800-meter relay made a huge impact on the standings, finishing second overall with a time of 8:08.59 – a silver medal finish earned by Preston, Carriere, Thompson and Stanton.
 
The final event of the meet was the 4x400-meter relay, which sparked the Corsairs to the top of the standings as senior Nico LaCortiglia, Tessier, junior James Christie and Gordon combined for a time of 3:23.80 for third overall.
 
UMass Dartmouth will see qualified individuals return to action next Friday and Saturday at the 2025 DIII New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Action will get underway on Friday with the field events at 12pm, followed by track events at 4:30pm. Saturday's action will see both track and field events get underway at 11 on Saturday at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
