Women's Track & Field Finishes 6th at LEC Championships

Solid performance pace Corsairs at outdoor championship

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Powered by a number of outstanding efforts the UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team finished sixth overall at the 2025 Little East Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday afternoon. The Corsairs compiled 74 points as the team title was captured by Southern Maine.
 
In the field events, junior Isabella Taccogna earned the silver medal and All-LEC Second Team honors in the high jump after tying for second with a height of 1.48 meters (4' 10.25"). She went on to earn sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.09 meters (33' 1.25").
 
The shot put saw graduate student Kate Hockenbury post fourth overall with a DIII New England and collegiate-best throw of 11.97 meters (39' 3.25"). Rookie Olivia Seutter earned eighth overall with a throw of 11.24 meters (36' 10.5") – also a collegiate best and NED3 qualifying mark – as senior Neisha Boiteux was ninth with a mark of 10.65 meters (34' 11.25").
 
Seutter went on to earn the bronze medal and All-LEC Third Team recognition in the discus throw, taking third overall with a D3 New England qualifying and collegiate best mark of 36.19 meters (118' 9"). Boiteux was fifth with a D3 New England mark of 35.49 meters (116' 5"), while sophomore Emily Hesketh was 11th with a mark of 30.36 meters (99' 7").
 
In the hammer throw, Hesketh earned the bronze medal and All-LEC Third Team recognition, placing third overall with a throw of 42.14 meters. That mark was another D3 New England qualifying mark. Boiteux was ninth with a throw of 39.42 meters (129'4"), while senior Mia Mejia-Maalouf was 10th with a throw of 38.37 meters (125' 11").
 
The javelin throw concluded the field events for the Corsairs as Mejia-Maalouf was fourth overall with a distance of 33.89 meters (111' 2"). Junior Grace Russell was 10th with a throw of 28.49 meters (93' 6"), while Hockenbury was 11th with a mark of 28.03 meters (91' 11"). Rounding out the action was grad student Alexa Lemieux, who was 14th overall with a distance of 26.41 meters (86' 8").
 
The track events kicked off with the 10,000-meter run as graduate student Emily Philbrook posted fifth overall with a D3 New England qualifying time of 40:06.05. In the 1,500-meters, rookie Ashlyn Byrnes posted seventh overall in 5:29.79, while classmate Olivia DeSimone was 10th in 5:38.19.
 
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the Corsairs earned valuable points as graduate student Emma Steedman earned silver and All-LEC Second Team honors with a D3 New England qualifying time of 12:01.01, while senior Bee Greenberg earned All-LEC Third Team and bronze medal honors after posting a D3 New England qualifying mark of 12:04.60 – also marking a collegiate best time. Rookie Alexia Gonsalves concluded the action, placing eighth overall with a time of 13:34.42.
 
Rookie Belleya Franck posted fifth overall in the 100-meter hurdle finals with a time of 16.96, while the 100-meter dash saw fellow rookie Phoebe Gesner finish 11th overall with a time of 13.00. In the 800-meter run, senior Julia Latura finished fourth overall with a time of 2:28.13, while rookie Sara Lopez was sixth with a time of 2:28.61. Junior Tori Schweitzer was 12th on the afternoon with a mark of 2:35.38 as senior Anya Aadland was 13th in 2:38.37.
 
The 400-meter hurdles saw Russell nab the silver medal and All-LEC Second Team honors – earning second overall with a time of 1:08.75. In the 5,000-meters, sophomore Sarah Lynch was fifth overall with a time of 19:16.23, while classmate Sophie Owen took 10th in 20:50.33. Sophomore Serena Carnes and rookie Lylah Thibeault posted 12th (21:21.43) and 13th (21:55.62), respectively.
 
In the 4x800-meter relay, the foursome of Greenberg, Latura, Lopez and Steedman combined for a winning time of 10:16.81 -garnering All-LEC First Team and the gold medals. The day concluded with the 4x400-meter relay as Gesner, Taccogna, Schweitzer and Russell placed sixth overall with a mark of 4:28.40.
 
UMass Dartmouth will see qualified individuals return to action next Friday and Saturday at the 2025 DIII New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Action will get underway on Friday with the field events at 12pm, followed by track events at 4:30pm. Saturday's action will see both track and field events get underway at 11 on Saturday at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
