AMHERST, Mass. – It was a solid day of action for the UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team, who competed at the 2025 NEICAAA Open New England Championships on Saturday on the campus of UMass Amherst. The Corsairs saw a number of strong efforts, including two Top-9 finishes.
The field events saw sophomore
Emily Hesketh place 20th overall in the hammer throw with a distance of 40.73 meters (133' 7"). In the shot put, graduate student
Kate Hockenbury had a strong effort, placing 18th overall with a personal best mark of 11.98 meters (39' 3.75").
On the track, the Corsairs got things going in the 10,000-meter run as sophomore
Sarah Lynch finished 21st overall with a time of 43:32.23. Next up was the 5,000-meter run as graduate student
Emily Philbrook posted 28th overall with a time of 19:02.34. Also finishing strong was senior
Bee Greenberg, who was right behind in 29th with a time of 19:23.77.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, grad student
Emma Steedman impressed with a ninth-place finish. Their time was a personal best of 11:20.34 – crushing a previous best set last weekend at the DIII New England Championships (11:29.11) - and also a new UMass Dartmouth school record.
Rounding out the meet action for UMD was the 4x800-meter relay, comprised of senior
Julia Latura, rookie
Sara Lopez, Greenberg and senior
Anya Aadland. The group combined for a time of 10:23.69 – good for ninth overall.
The Corsairs will see several student-athletes return to action next Thursday, traveling to Cambridge, Mass., for the MIT Final Qualifier – the last meet for UMD before the NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
