ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Junior captain
Cameron Thompson paced the way for the Corsairs men's cross country team on Saturday as UMass Dartmouth earned fifth overall in a field of 14 teams at the Suffolk Short Course Classic at Highland Park. UMD outpaced Plymouth State at the event, recording 149 to secure the top finish by a Little East team.
Thompson had a spectacular effort to open the season, finishing 14th overall with a time of 16:01.75 in the 5k event. He was followed by junior
Joseph Stanton, who recorded 25th overall with a mark of 16:25.61. Rounding out the top three for team finish was sophomore
Jackson Caron, who recorded a time of 16:35.61 to take 34th overall. Senior
Ethan Sylvia netted 48th overall with a finish time of 16:55.36, while junior Zach Shrute was 60th with a mark of 17:22.80.
Crossing sixth in the team finish was sophomore
Jack Barbato, who had a time of 17:23.92 to earn 61st overall, while sophomore
Connor Bruni posted a mark of 17:32.48 to earn 67th for the Corsairs. UMD's team time was 1:23.22 to Plymouth State's 1:24.37 at the meet.

The Corsairs return to action next Saturday (9/6) when they travel to Wickham Park in Manchester, Conn., to compete at the Trinity Invitational. Action for the men - who claimed victory at the Trinity Invite in 2024 - begins at 11:15am.
