Santos Garners NEWBA First Team Honors

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) released its weekly awards featuring graduate student guard Yasmine Santos, as announced by the organization. It marks the first career NEWBA weekly honor for Santos after being named to the NEWBA First Team. 

Santos dropped 90 total points, averaging 30 points per game, for the Corsairs during a 1-2 week in Little East Conference action. She shot 49.1 percent from the field (27-55) including one triple (1-3) and 35 made free throws (35-50). Santos also recorded 36 rebounds, five steals, four assists, and a blocked shot.

Despite a tough road loss at Eastern Connecticut State on January 6, Santos produced a season-high 38 points against the Warriors after making 12-of-21 field goals for a 57.1 shooting percentage. She also matched her season-high of 14 made free throws while finishing the game with 11 rebounds, two assists, and a steal. On January 8 versus UMass Boston, Santos tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 29 points as well as 10 rebounds.

The veteran guard finished the week strong with her third straight 20-plus point performance against Western Connecticut State on January 10 to power the Corsairs to their second league win. She finished the contest with a game-high 23 points to go along with nine rebounds, three steals, and an assist.

Santos and the Corsairs hosts Plymouth State University for their next Little East Conference (LEC) match up on Saturday, January 17 starting at 1:00 p.m. from the Tripp Athletic Center.
